Transferring miles

Hi everyone,

My mother recently died and I'm helping my father sort everything out.

My mother had flying club red status with a fair number of miles and my dad was wondering what he can do with them.

He is able to log onto my mothers account and could spend the miles but he would ideally like to transfer them into his account. He is nervous however of calling Virgin to discuss just in case they close the account and will not transfer the miles.

I wondered if anyone could offer advice?

Thanks,

Ant.

It's very sad to hear of your mother passing away.

FC rules say:

quote:2.9.1 In accordance with condition 2.9, mileage and tier points are not the property of the member and cannot and will not be transferred (a)upon death, (b)in relation to domestic affairs or (c)through legal intervention. Individual consideration may be given to cases on the provision of legal documentation relating to the aforementioned, at VAAs discretion.

Which implies some leeway. I would consider calling VS although I've not heard of anyone doing this yet.

Certainly had BA miles transferred in these circumstances.

I doubt VS would differ.

I do know that 8 years ago when by boss died his widow did manage to get his flying club air miles credited to her account. This was in excess of 100k miles.

regards,

gnjb.

Sorry to hear about your loss.
I too had my late husbands BA airmiles transferred to me when he died so I expect Virgin would probably do the same.

Thanks all for your helpful replies, I'll ask my dad to give Virgin a ring.

Cheers,

Ant.

After many months of browsing this site this subject matter prompted me to join V Flyer.

Sadly my wife {50} passes away earlier this year. I e mailed Flying Club to check if my wifes miles could be transferred to my account.

I recieved a rapid e mail reply saying that as this was such a difficult subject that a staff member would call me in person.
Soon afterwards I recieved a phone call and transfer of miles was arranged.

The gentleman who called me handled a difficult subject in a very sensitive way a fact that I reported to his manager in writing.

First class service from Virgin Atlantic.

Welcome to the site, old boy.

Thank you for sharing that information about VS. I'm sure that others who find themselves in similar sad circumstances will find it helpful

Thanks again for everyones replies... my father contacted Virgin and they are now in the process of transferring my mother's miles into his account. The flying club team asked for a copy of her death certificate and were very polite and helpful.
