Removal of Upper Class Essentials

PostPosted: 10 Jan 2010, 01:32

FYI:

From 13th January 2010 The J Essential items (cowshed moisturiser, lip balm, pens & polos) are being removed.
So bring your own!!

Do you care or need these items?
VS said they have done trials and nobody wanted these items anymore!?

That's basically because the products were mostly s***. If they were giving away decent product it would get taken. I always take other airlines' products on board with me for moisturising as the ones on offer are just so poor. So it's a self defeating prophecy - offer crap and when it's not taken act surprised and phase it out.

I saw your post and bounced, just a little, and very quietly.[^][:I]
I'm not *quite* as much of a fan of these as GJ, but I do like the little pressies they give you in cute little bags. [;)]
Hmm- I guess I'll have to pack an old one for my flight in the morning. Hmm - how about a BA First one? Or even one of the crappy CW chav-tastic pouches?
I was hoping the new amenity kits would prove to be a fact not fiction, and would have arrived by now...

No..these items have been taken off to save money.
You still get a 'Snooze Pack' with socks, eye shades & ear plugs. But that is it.

Oh how quaint, an economy kit in Upper Class[V], however I think it has been mentioned before that the kit in Y was better than the current one in J, at least you get given a pen and not just offered one.

So the post I made several weeks ago (and bemoaning the penny pinching) was reasonably accurate then [:?]

There we go.
Personally I rather like the Cowshed moisturiser (but the lip balm is vile) and do use the pens.

[y]Spot on.

Pretty bad show VS [V] I thought VS were supposed to be market leaders and innovators ..... oh yeah, that was about 10 years ago [:#]

Maybe the trail showed they weren't wanted because nobody knew they were available? It was only by asking the CSS that we got some, hardly an accrate trail!

What annoys me more is the fact that Y and PE pax now actually get more than the UC pax, hardly right is it?

It's not a huge loss in practical terms but another indication of the way the product and overall experience is being devalued - VS really are loading the gun.

Oh dear, yet something else that has been removed/reduced. So, on my next trip I've got to look forward to no longer pre-booking my treatments and turn up and take pot luck, reduced (apparently) food offerings in the clubhouse, and no extras on board (I used to use the moisturiser and the polos were handy), OK in the scheme of things only minor but its the continual reduction that is frustrating me. After my next trip I think it's time to look at the competition more seriously.

I thought the pens where staying though [:?] as how's everyone going to fill in the VISA forms on US flights now if there's no longer any pens available [?]

These cut backs are becoming tiresome.

UC is becoming more like a premium economy product with each day that passes. It is a difficult one, because all these things that are being removed are not likely to make me switch to BA, simply because I can't ever recall getting off a BA plane and smiling as a leave. So in a way, its cost effective to remove them if that's the case for others too.

However, I used to love Virgin Atlantic and was fiercely loyal to the brand. Not any more. The good days of VA being an innovative airline with the added extras are over. The only thing that is keeping me flying with them (by a thread) is their cabin crew and the seat configuration. Both miles ahead of BA J. I'm sorry to say that the cabin crew are clearly getting tired of these cutbacks too as they've stated to me on several occasions.

Once the cabin crew have become disenchanted with the product and company (which I fear will not be long), that's my relationship with the airline over.

To be honest, I've had more luck getting AVOD on BA than I have Virgin and that is enough to make me consider the switch now.

I guess you could go and scrounge one from either PE and Economy as both those kits still have pens in them.

Chauffeur transfers for R Class tickets.
Claw back the cost by cutting out the moisteriser?
Is Gordon Brown in charge of finances?

The silver J pens will be loaded and given on request until the stock run out. Then ECONOMY pens will be loaded!!!

In that case I would prefer the economy kit as at least the bag is useful!

I don't feel so bad defecting to BA CW for my next 3 flights. It was the pens and polos that made UC so worthwhile[}:)] Beware in case they decide to hand you a PE pen.....because we all know that they are really dangerous missiles in the wrong hands[:w]

RIP Amenity Kit [:#].

Here's one area where VS now lies at the bottom of the pile for premium travel ...
