I've been calcualting how much it would cost to go to HKG in July. I have 10,000 miles at the moment.

If I book PE plus buy 30,000 miles for a UC upgrade it costs a total of 1622.

If I book UC plus buy 5,000 miles for M+M it costs a total of 2026.

Is there a catch in either of these options?

Make sure you are looking at an S class PE fare and not just the lowest fare possible (K class) as that is not upgradable with miles. Also there will be some extra tax to pay.

On the UC miles + money, you won't earn any miles or TP's.

Most importantly make sure there is availabilty in G class before buying any miles. No point buying miles if no G class available.

The S fare is 1437 so I would need to pay a total of 1902.

There may be a bit of extra fuel / tax (can't remember) for each leg of the upgrade ... like fifteen quid each way.
