V-Flyer Awards 2010

PostPosted: 02 Feb 2010, 01:41

Voting is now open for the annual V-Flyer Awards. Now in the seventh year, our three gongs seek out excellence in Virgin-branded travel companies, including Virgin Atlantic, Virgin America, Virgin Blue / V Australia and Virgin Holidays.

You can choose your favourite airport lounge, the best airport team and one individual for our special V-Flyer Hero.

Last year the Heathrow Clubhouse picked up the award for the best lounge (for the third year running!) and the vote was split between Virgin Atlantic's Orlando team and Virgin America's San Francisco guys. Our 2009 V-Flyer Hero was Claire Nissim, who welcomes travellers to the SFO Clubhouse, and has been a long-time friend of V-Flyer.

But who will win this year? Only you can decide.

Make your opinion count and vote now!

Pete

Done, firstly as it is the VF awards, couldn't we also look inwards, say something like the best TR of the year ?

Second, if one of the Pacific Blue teams wins, I will be more than happy to drop off the award, as long as V is paying for the flight [:D]

Lastly, my vote for Hero better win this year or there will be trouble [:(!]

Good idea. But wouldn't get that repetitive...'and this year the award goes to...oh, him again'. I think we know of whom I speak.[:w] Not that it wouldn't be richly deserved, of course, and they are worthy of publication.

Done.

Not keen on the TR vote myself - I vote for the product on offer on how it is best delivered.

Maybe for 2009, but 2010 started off with LSoM's (now officially an M) TR for Ulusaba.

HG, while I understand where you are coming from, I am just thinking about the members here and what they bring to the site rather than just the Virgin group of companies, who let's face it over the last year have brought mostly headaches and anger to the site.

Actually, on that point, do we really want to keep awarding VS for cutting services ?

Not everyone that is involved with this site travels regularly and/or extensively and I can therefore understand the appeal of a site related V-Flyer award.

maybe we should have one award for most stupid/ill thought out decision made by VS that year and present it to Steve Ridgway ?

Now that is a great idea [y]

We should present him with a packet of Polo's this year!

Ah. Yes. [:I] I blame short term memory loss.

Ok... not too late to add another category, if there is a lot of support for the idea. Not necessarily just for best trip report, but perhaps best contribution to V-Flyer, whatever that may be.

I'd be exempt, BTW [;-)]

Thoughts?

Interesting idea, part of me likes it, especially the best TR, as there are usually some cracking ones and I think it would be nice to show some appreciation to the people who spend a lot of time writing them for us. Another part of me though, wonders if it just ends up being a bit of a popularity contest and could it end up annoying people, especially if it ends up being a regular who wins, does it feed the whole 'clique' issue again?

D'accord [y]

I understand the sentiment but it would be equally elitist not to consider recognising other elements if members find them integral to the V-Flyer experience?

It shouldn't need to, there are many who post and never TR, it would be nice to appreciate those who take the time & effort to describe their trips, big or small/ new or regular. Many who are vocal about all things corporate, do seem to overlook the time that goes into the TR, especially some, LSoM/ JP's being the most obvious recent ones.
(1. regular contributer, 2. most original, 3. most informative). With winners unable to be nominated in consecutive yrs [:?]

Remember, if we do add this category - it doesn't have to be for wittiest TR. Many of us can probably still recall the photo Howard posted of him in the (then new) LHR Clubhouse hot tub with a pair of water wings. That deserved prizes.

The nominations are

1) The new 747 'bubble' seat configurations
2) Reduced bagage allowance in economy
3) ?????

There are always the little 'Rate This' thumbs up on posts. Not sure if they get used much (I use them when I am in a hurry but someone has said something pertinent or funny) and if the number of thumbs are collated...

Part of it will be a popularity, after all it's the reading off the TR's that could lead to this and as I said before, the TR's got off to a cracking start this year with LSoM's one.

However there could be other reasons for giving it, work done for the site, work done for a charity, who knows, normally during the course of the year someone on here makes themselves a VF star for something.

The subversive part of me wants this option, and I'd nominate the dwindling champagne and crisps ... but it probably won't do any favours.

However, I do like a reward culture so I'd suggest Best Virgin Innovation in place of stupid decision! It's just, there may not be enough for a short list [B)].

Actually, if we were to do a prize for worst idea etc, I would nominate the VS Facebook page, a few of us have spent the last year point out the inaccuracy's, false statements and outright BS.

How about an open category.

Let V-flyers vote for their favourite airline of that year.

You'd expect (hope) Virgin would win, but what if it didn't.....

Oh I can see lots of dangerous aspects to this.. but a bad result might get some attention as to why, plus the fact we have this category might raise a few eyebrows.

(I don't mean we should deliberately vote for another airline)
