Yup indeed, and I am on the VS1 or was. VS have put me on the VS17 instead which is highly undesirable but the best that could result in the circumstances. I hope they change it from a cruddy 343.
Mind you, the text message I received made no sense, and the Web site doesn't mention the VS1 being cancelled. So all in, typically squared up VS communication.

Update, after holding for 30 mins for the premier team, after receiving a message from VS saying:
'We regret to advise that due to severe weather in the US VS0000 30DEC has been cancelled. You have been rebooked onto VS17 departing Heathrow 2010 arriving Newark 2325'
Which according to the premier team is codswallop. There is no such rebooking.
Now I am irritated [V].

So does that mean you are not yet rebooked onto another flight as of yet?
How accurate are these estimates? Obviously with the weather its very unpredictable so I'm guessing that there isn't going to be a great chance of getting out @ 1900hrs... contemplating whether its worth it for a 4 day trip.

You're lucky, my two day trip is now 1 1/2 days - I'd cancel if I didn't have an important customer meeting on Friday morning. But VS can't tell me any details because the prem. team can't access bookings now they are in the hands of the airport team. VS is incredibly infuriating in these circumstances - why someone can't just 'view' and not even 'edit' or 'delete' information is ridiculous. Rant over.
So no. As yet I am not sure what VS's plan is, nor if they will stick to it. If I were you I'd ask to be rebooked at a later date - that is unless you will lose money cancelling hotels or whatever.

Interestingly, BA have cancelled 8 out of 10 flights, VS currently 2 out of 6. Who is being optimistic and who is being pessimistic?

Ha ha very funny. So, CDC picks me up, we leave for the airport, ring VS, VS17 still on. Arrive, VS17 off. That little round about at the top of the ramp is very good for turning around and heading home again [:D].
Flights tomorrow rammed. No business in the US this week [:#].
The #1 is very miffed [:p].

By the way, how does, say 1m depth by 100 sq m of snow weigh?

Snow is about 30% water on average, but this does vary depending on the conditions. The more compact the snow is, the more water it will contain.
1 cubic meter of water weighs 1000Kg at 4'C, therefore, 30% of 1000 = 300Kg.
so 1 cubic meter of snow weights approx. 300 Kg
I *think* my maths is right!!!

The
hanger is 164' x 252'
That's 3840 sq metres!!! Internal!
at 300kg/m - Over 1,150 tonnes !!

this from wiki anserws
Ken Hellevang from the University of North Dakota says, 'The weight of snow varies greatly. Light fluffy snow may only weigh about seven pounds per cubic foot. More average snow may weigh 15 pounds per cubic foot and drifted compacted snow may weigh 20 pounds or more...'
Based on that I calculate it to be
There are about 35 cubic feet in a cubic metre
so 35 * 15 lb = 525 lb / cubic metre
so 100 cubic metres = 525 * 100 = 52,500 lbs
2.2 lb in a kilo = 52,500/2.2 = 23,863 kg
so 100 cubic metres of snow = approx 23,963 kg
Like James I think this right !
But thats an average for a whole area. if it drifted onto a smaller area then there would obviously be more weight concentrated on a smaller area.

update from Bill!
3840 sq meters (assuming an even 1 metre depth = 3840 cubic metres
3840 * 525 lbs of snow/cubic metre = 2,016,000 lbs of snow
2,016,000 / 2.2 = 916,364 KG
there are 1,016 kg in an imperial ton so 916,364 KG = 902 tons

OK - by those snow weight figures - 910 tonnes!
Either way it's around 1000 tonnes!
Looking at the other photographs, the top of the hangers seem to be covered as much by ice as snow!
edit:
or even ~ 1000 tons [|:)]

It now looks as though the
adjacent hanger roof has gone as well even though they have cleared most of the snow off.

The layout is shown
here. The hanger designators 'A' and 'B' can just be seen on the above photo.
The original photo only shows hanger A collapsed.
