Has anyone ever got expired FC miles reinstated?

Had a quick search for this and the only relevant thread I could find (with my limited membership) was over 3 years old and locked. So apologies if I've missed this somewhere obvious and I suspect I know the answer to my question (and still won't like it much)...

But has anyone ever managed to get expired FC miles reinstated to their account? Or know of anyone else that has?

My Mum had over 40,000 that she carelessly allowed to expire in June last year, due in no small part to my Nan's increasing illness and everything else pretty much getting put on hold.

I've tried sending an email to customer services and boring them with how many of the extended family are FC members (8) and how many of them have the Virgin Atlantic MBNA credit-card (4) but to no avail.

What doesn't help is that my Mum did fly with Virgin within the previous 3 years and thought this was acceptable, but I think it was on a companion ticket or exclusively using some of my Dad's miles and so didn't qualify or extend the life of her membership.

So is there any final secret way that we can go about to try and get these miles reinstated or was the customer service agent really not fibbing when they said that 'to remain fair and consistent to all our members who are meeting the requirements set down in our terms and conditions, we will be unable to return these miles back to [her] account'?

Thanks in advance for your help

Guy

Guy

I have seen a number of people ask this question over the years, both on here and on Flyertalk, but can't remember anyone reporting success.

Previous threads have suggested that if you have got a lot of premium class flight booked in the future, that VS MAY be more receptive, but I don't know if that is fact or wishful thinking, and doesn't appear to apply in your case.

Hi Nick

I assumed it must have been asked at some point and did look (honest!) but like I said, the only semi-relevant thread I could find was a couple of years old and was now locked.

As frustrating as this might be, however, I'm actually glad to hear that VS really do seem to have been applying exactly the same rules in every case. I'm a tad annoyed with my Mum for being careless enough to let all those lovely miles expire, but the fact that the VS CS wasn't just repeating a stock phrase but what appears to be the company's actual and firm standpoint, does at least make me feel a bit better about things.

And thanks for taking the time to reply all the same.
