ESTA email from Continental - but flying on VS?!

Hi all,

I've got a flight booked from LHR - JFK on VS45 next Thursday. I've just received an email though from Continental advising me about ESTA and saying how they look forward to seeing me on board!

I know VS has a codeshare with them but I find it a little strange they've emailed me - especially when VS45 (and the return VS10) is still listed as a VS service.

Any ideas?!

Did you book through CO?

I got this also. Slightly strange that I booked directly with VS, and am flying to LAX and have a VS flight number.

Also, it's to an address that virgin don't use.

Strange....

Thought it was spam at first...

It was booked through VS.

I am a member of OnePass with CO but I wouldn't have thought the two should be connected like that. Surely they shouldn't be sharing information such as flights?

did you enter your One Pass number on the booking, could be picked up from that

Nope just my Flying Club number. Hmm. I think a call to VS is needed - I don't like my information getting thrown around different airline's systems!

I'm surprised they can share info like this, surely that is a Data Protection issue ?

reading other forums, looks like several people have also received this email and they are not flying anywhere.
Looks like its a general email going out from CO to all One Pass members reminding about ESTA

I received that email & I don't have any flights booked with them. I thought it was just a general email as I do belong to OnePass.

Yes, but the subjext of the email is:

'Electronic Travel Authorization Required for Your Upcoming Trip to the U.S.'

I find it very strange that a general email would have that as the title!?

I got the same email - am not a member of OnePass, and my only trip booked to the US is with BA! Very strange...

Cheers

I got the email too - I have a Virgin flight coming up in May and a Continental one in July. I am a member of One Pass but elected for Virgin miles on both trips.
The email does not state which flight it pertains too but was sent to the email address I use for One Pass - a different address from that which I used to book these flights. I suspect this is a catch all mailing to all past/present Continental customers which they can use to say that we were informed.

Just received an email from CO-

'You recently received an e-mail regarding the Electronic System for Travel Authorization (ESTA) that was sent to you in error. We want to make sure that you know your contact information has not been affected and that you were not intended to receive that e-mail.'

That explains it!!

it was supposed to go out to people travelling between now and June

quote:Hi Everyone, earlier today we sent an email regarding the new ESTA program to several of you in error. This email was intended for our customers traveling from visa-waiver countries to the U.S. between now and June 2010, but instead we sent it to a much larger audience.

We'll be sending out a correction email shortly. Sorry for the confusion!
