Flying to Kuala Lumpur

I'm hoping to fly to Kuala Lumpur this summer (246/07 - 04/08). I've checked VS, its 1937 from LHR - HKG (M+M), then 147 on Air Asia. But I'm not sure if 4 hours on Air Asia would be bearable? I would prefer to travel via Singapore as it's a shorter transfer but I cannot use my miles.

Why not redeem your Virgin miles with Malaysia Airlines - direct flight from LHR-KUL - and unlike Singapore Airlines you can travel in ANY class that you've got the miles to pay for....

Unfortunately I only have 15,000 miles.

Emirates or another middle eastern carrier might be a good, cheaper option (one stop).

Ditto that - you will easily be able to get a 1 stop fare in biz to KUL for less than the VS M&M fare...

Emirates is 2203, Quatar is 2641 and Gulf Air do not have any flights.

I have just done the HKG - KUL flight on Air Asia, and found it more than bearable. We got the extra leg room seats at the front and thought that Air Asia were excellent, considering the price we paid.

Looks like emirates then for 2203 which compares to your VS and Air Asia option of 1937 + 147 = 2084 but with less travel time.

Where did you get yor emirates and quatar prices from? Might be wise to check their websites as well as expedia etc etc which can be cheaper for the same cabin and flights.

1330 flight and taxes in 'premium' (extra leg room seats) on AirAsia ex STN....but then you have to buy luggage / food / amenity kit...

I've looked at KLM which is 2192 and Lufthansa which is 2107. Do you think they equal VS in quality?

KLM is barely different to Emirates, and I'm sure Emirates would be much better. Lufthansa might be alright.

Is this the only airline you can do it with?

Are Emirates any good for business class? I've read that changing in dubia is hell!

I would seriously give Air Asia X a second look.

The aircraft they are using are EX SQ, pay a little bit extra and get one of the old business class seats.

HERE

For your dates your looking at around 1330 for the flights, figure another 20 or 30 for bags and food etc and your sitting in a last generation SQ J seat, really not a bad deal all around.

I think EK biz is fab - great food - I did LHR - HKG/BKK - LHR with them in September...

If you want me to look at beating the prices you have found just private message me...

Unfortunately I am unable to send a PM as I do not have a subscription. I was looking on the Emirates site. The LGW flight is 2191 but the LHR flight is 2203 [?] On Expedia the same flight from LGW is 2181. KLM on expedia is 2,097.

The airport charges at Gatwick are cheaper than Heathrow thus the price difference.

Is it worth saving 12 to fly from LGW. I can get to either airport easily so it's really down to the quality of the lounge. Also, is it just me or are the prices to fly the A380 more then the other flights?

The main reason I like to fly UC is to not sit next to a stranger as the herringbone formation allows me to do. On other airlines I will have to sit next to someone, does that often cause a lot of bother and inconvienece?

I have only ever had one issue with a person in the seat next to me, it was a Maxjet flight out of New York, the guy was strange, not in a hostile way or anything like that, just strange.

I ate then went to sleep.

Boy I miss Maxjet.

Hmm are they really. I was under the impression that the aircraft ex AC at least thats what all the TR's on a.net have shown for the 343.
