Were heading to Boston in Nov UC , Virgin also booked our connecting flight out of Belfast City on BMI. Our connection time is 2 hours in london and wondered will we be checked in the whole way from Belfast to Boston, or will we have to checkin again at London. A good few years ago we traveled with BMI and BA they checked us in the whole way to NY.

If you are on the same PNR then you should be checked through (including luggage) without having to check-in again at LHR

Tonty is correct but I personally would go to the VS desk in Flight Connections to get a purple boarding card [:D]

I tried to book straight through from Belfast City to Newark but the cost of the additional flight was far more. I booked the 2 flights separately but hopefully won't need to check-in bags so my plan is is to OLCI both ways. I also booked an earlier flight out of Belfast to allow for delays and extra Clubhouse time. The fun starts at T3.
I think I should be able to stay airside and use flight connections having used OLCI but if anyone knows better please advise.

BMI will only check you through to LHR unless both flights are on one PNR. If you dont have bags and do OLCI, it won't be a problem but if you need to check a bag through, you've no chance. BMI are very strict!

This is why I book connecting flights separately... under 2 hours in the clubhouse, unacceptable! [;)]
Tried a few months ago for Virgin to check bags through to Belfast via Aer Lingus - even did my wee sad face to the girl at check in - but they wouldn't / couldn't do it. No big deal I guess, but when time is tight it's a life saver.

Is PNR same as booking ref, I have that from Virgin and there all on the same E-Ticket. I will have bags to check in so I guess it will be a wait and see what happens at the airport.
As for the price of the connection I did a dummy booking online to see how much they would charge and came out around 250, but when I called up to book them they came out at 140 bang on what it said on the BMI website
Also on a side note how do I upgrade my V-Flyer account, the only place i can see is 'Membership Info' and register from there but It wants me to set up a new account, can i not just upgrade his one?

If Virgin booked your bmi flight as you said in your original post then you are on the same PNR in which case your bags should be checked all the way through

Thats good to know - when I booked flights recently the price difference was immense (500+/pax) UC return between prices for LHR-EWR-LHR and BHD-LHR-EWR-LHR-BHD. Might have had something to do with sale. Will also try the phone lines next time.
