Hey People,

I normally dont eat on a flight, But I have the last few times I have flown with CO and VS.

With CO you can see the menu for BF and get some idea if you fancy the food or remember to go and buy a sandwich and some nibbles before you board.

With VS I can not find anywhere a Menu for UC. Can any one help?

the last few times I have flown with VS the food in UC has either been great or terrible.

My next trip is in July on VS011.

Any help would be great.

Thanks in advance...

M

Hi M welcome

This is the latest UC menu for
Spring 2010

and the summer 2009 2009

The menus change every three months but these will give you a guide.

If your trip is in July it will be the summer menu which will start around the first Thursday in June. It will be posted on here shortly after that so keep your eyes peeled.

If you are in the Clubhouse you can ask to see the menu for your flight which may help you decide how much or how little to eat there.

Looks like me and the kids will be hungry when we land at MCO on Tuesday !

I might ask for one of the P/E meals.

If the current menu doesn't appeal to you, consider a special meal, but you have to order it it 48 hours before so you might be too late.

non-standard meals

Don't rely on there being a PE meal available as catering is normally very tight especially on a full flight.

PS.
Just looked up what a Jain meal is. :0

But, even with a special meal, you can't guarantee you'll get something you'll enjoy or can eat. They can sometimes be more esoteric than the normal meals. You are also rather "stuck with it", once you've ordered it.

Indeed. There was no offer of a "I'll see what else I can find" made for my girlfriend on our flight home, likely because there weren't any spare PE meals.

Not addressed at anyone in particular or for a particular cabin class!

I am always amazed that people expect their every dietary need and preference to be met by an airline.

Especially for 'allergies' when the pax hasn't even contacted the airline. Am also amazed how often a 'dont like' rapidly turns into a 'deathly allergy' in the hope of getting a different i.e. better meal.

Or that the CC will be able to in effect 'nick' a meal from another cabin or somehow russtle up a meal for someone and especially if the pax has given no notice.

I have been on flights where special meals have been refused by the pax 'because its not what I expected' and their supposed need for a vege meal rapdily vanishes and they have the beef / chicken.

I have also heard the 'they should have known I dont like that' not sure how VS would have known this info though!

It might help by posting the menus on the website for the normal and 'special' meals so that pax can make a choice but once a special meal has been ordered then the airline should basically say 'tough - its this or nothing'.

Also there are sometimes the overuse of the same ingredient that then reduces pax choice if they cant eat a particular food - e.g. there have been comments on asparagus or mushroom overload.

I have to laugh at the special meal comment - sorry, not being sarcastic but really laugh as I am a coeliac so order the gluten free meal and it is hit or miss, i.e. usually horrible :$ so I really wouldn't choose that one if I didn't really need it. I was on a flight last year when the lady next to me had ordered the gluten free meal, which she proudly told me was due to having a gluten 'allergy', i.e. not coeliac disease, she turned her nose up when it arrived and promptly had a normal meal v( . Wish I *really* didn't need that gluten free meal and could have had a normal meal!

Its almost a no win situation. On one hand it would be great if airlines could give you the meal options ahead of the flight but then that opens up a real situation if for whatever reason those meals are not loaded onto the aircraft (as I have had happen).

While I agree with the majority of what you have said, there is a small problem, at least where my last food issue with VS is concerned.

As some know, I am allergic to onions, no deathly, but still to the point where I certainly do not want to eat them.

A couple of years ago we took a flight that had the Christmas menu, of course that was a non starter, so I called Premier to check that the meal option listed here would be the ones loaded, or else I was going to have to order a meal.

They of course said that VF was correct y) and there were options for me.

Of course the menu we were given on the flight had onions in every main and was very different to the one listed on here and given to me by Premier.

So if the airline itself can't get it right then there are issues.

In this day and age there really isn't any reason why it couldn't be done, for the premium cabins it really is a non issue, SQ proves this every day with their book the chef.

The problems are, as you say, what happens if the food isn't loaded and, well lets face facts, VS can't get their booking engine to work 100% of the time, what chance does a food booking have ?|

Please don't think I was being dismissive of people with real and verified allergies but there is a tendency today for some people to turn a 'dislike' into an 'allergy' for all sorts of reasons - usually with the expectation that it will get them someting 'better' in a restaurent etc

Bad menu planning with ingredients repeated several times over in the same menu does just seem a bit ignorant, doesn't it?
