Am flying out to Miami on friday morning. Have PE tickets (K I think) and was wondering the chances of upgrading and the best way to go about it ?|

A K ticket is the lowest priced PE you normally get and as such is not upgradable unless you upgrade to a flexible ticket first.

This close to your flight you'd need to call Flying Club for availbility.

Having said that though, you can try at check-in where all the usual rules can go out the window if there is space in Upper.

Do you mean upgrading with cash or miles?

If cash then this close to your flight, you are only going to get a full J fare now I'm afraid.

All the cheaper discount fares come with advance purchase rules.

Your only option now will be to ask at check-in.

If you are just looking to upgrade with cash, give VS a call, and they will give you a price, which will be the difference from what you paid for your K and the current cheapest UC fare, plus an amendment fee, which is abt £90.

If you want to use miles, as Darren has said, you will need to upgrade to an S (or W if no S fares available) then your miles plus any additional taxes and again, the change fee of abt £90.

I've regularly upgraded family on K's at the airport. You can't guarantee there will be seats but if available you will be charged to upgrade the ticket + the miles. Good luck & have a great trip.

Thanks all for your speedy responses. Was suffering from recession nerves when I booked the tickets and have regretted it every day since. At least I've still got UC check in and the clubhouse ^)

Possible chance that something might be offered at OLCI and if not then you can always ask at the airport.

I'd also ask in the Clubhouse. The last time I upgraded from a K fare it was in the Clubhouse

But that can also work the other way.

As there is no need to free up space in Y and W, there is no real incentive to accept miles to upgrade.

MIA is still early probably, which is a pity. I've seen Ks upgraded for just miles, when they have had a full to oversold Y cabin and needed to push people up, Y->W and W->J. In such cases they may let you upgrade the K. As the folks have said, flight looks pretty much full in Y and W, open in J, so it might actually happen. These kinds of upgrades would be likely to disappear pretty quickly. You'd need to be at the airport before the CH opens! :0
