Chances of PE to UC upgrade at airport?

I have had to book a return flight to Lagos at short notice - going out May 1st. The cheapest UC fare I could find on the VA website was £4122 and the cheapest PE fare was £1297 (due to the backlog of passengers probably). Opodo was offering the PE fare for £978 so I booked with them.

Can anyone tell me:

1. what my chances are of paying cash for a one way upgrade at heathrow on the day - especially since my booking was not done directly with VA.

2. given that the price of an UC return was £4122, if it is likely that the price of such an upgrade would be quite high i.e. £1000+ ?

Thanks in advance!!!

As far as I can remember, anyone can upgrade as long as there are seats avaliable. The prices usually vary but I'd say you probably are looking at around the £1000 mark but don't take my word for it.

Upgrades at the airport are always an unknown quantity. Cold, hard cash is always a good opening offer, but a lot will depend on loads on the day.

As for cost, again, depends on load. EF is showing PE nearly full so there maybe a deal on offer.

Never hurts to ask though.

At the LHR check-in, the agents have a printed sheet with a grid of prices for upgrades on each route.

I assume the price varies according to a number of factors including loads and your original ticket bucket. My personal experience is that these prices rarely represent bargains, but if your flight is particularly busy down the back, they may be keener to offer an incentive for paid upgrades.
