Anyone know why VS005 has been delayed, for on average about 3 hours, the last 4-5 days? Is this the ash cloud, and if so why are BA able get flight 207 to leave more or less on time?

yes most likely due to the ash cloud.
As to BA - they are far larger so have a bigger fleet and so can be more flexible in allocating planes and so stick to their timetable

Hi and welcome to V-Flyer.
Yes the ash cloud has been responsible for delays in transatlantic flights for the last few days as aircraft have flown around it.
The reason BA has been able to get their flights out on time is it has a large pool of aircraft to draw on and can bring these in to play to offset any delays. VS on the other hand does not have the same capacity of idle aircraft since it has a smaller fleet and in any case a plane on the ground is not earning money. They have moved aircraft around and consolidated flights to try and reduce delays but it takes time to get back to normal

Thanks.
I figured it must have had something to do with the ash cloud. I hope it has moved away from the Atlantic by the time I take my next flight in August.
