With VS being named the official England Football World Cup airline, the planes will soon look like a Virgin F1 car with all the sponsorship stickers.

At least the planes can fly and can carry enough fuel to get to their destinations, unlike the cars. ):

Have VS already painted a 346 up with an "official airline of the England team" bit on the side?? Also can LTN take a 346? Traditionally all England flights use LTN.

This reminds me of ANA on domestic routes in Japan, there is a Pokemon plane which looks awesome.
There is also a panda plane which looks like a cross between a panda and a fresian cow.

I really dislike these stickers, feel they devalue the VS brand.

No doubt Crawley Towers just look at the cash.

Both major Japanese airlines often do these one off special schemes for their aircraft, especially on domestic routes.

The best "Panda" aircraft of late is the FedEx 777 Panda express, it looks fantastic.


This Harry Potter scheme on the side of the 744 marks a change in direction for VS. Previously all "stickers" have been of the type used for the "No way AA/BA" and "Backing the Bid" variety and I would imagine we will see something relating to the World Cup very shortly, that will hopefully be akin to that used by BA on the 777 and 320 up until recently.

What we are now seeing is a way to generate some more revenue. Personally I don't have a problem with them, NZ have shown over the years with their Lord of the Rings and the Warner Brothers theme park Logojets that they can be done rather tastefully, ok the later was done in an LCC way (for Freedom when it was still around) but still. However I think I will begin to dislike them if VS decide to put stickers on the side of their aircraft for every new major feature film.

Me too. OK on LCCs. I don't mind decoration if it's just that (like Rene Kulitja did for Qantas), but hawking your fuselage for advertising just looks tacky IMHO .

So did I as I mentioned above. I think the important difference is that by the looks of it, NZ used actual paint rather than a sticker.

There are numerous examples of airlines using paint (DJ with their Gillette and Visit QLD planes, FedEx with the Panda, pretty much every CA special scheme) and they look good.

Good points - even Ryanair doesn't adorn it's aircraft and how soon will stickers start to peel, look tatty, and become unaerodynamic?

A bit lateral but has anybody been on the Harry Potter experience at Universal as yet?

It's not opening until June, but have walked past where it was being built and Hogsmead and the castle look amazing!

I don't think selling logo space on cars / uniform is tacky and better suited to LCCs. It works for F1 / Nascar et al, so why not airlines?

In this day and age, any revenue stream has to be welcome for VS.

I support any extra cash going into the coffers, provided it is spent on reversing catering and cleaning budget cuts, and not management bonus payments.

Recent signs out of Crawley look promising for the catering budget, so maybe the power of the beancounters is being curtailed at last. ^)

I think my grip is the tacky stickers. I think they do look very cheap, especially when they begin to peel off. If the actual "advert" is painted on, a la LOTR on NZ, then it does not look bad at all.

However an all over advert on a 744 akin to the DJ Gillette plane might be a step to far.

Its an incredibly fine balance. It is different in F1/Nascar as the cars are sponsored, without the sponsorship the car would struggle. If VS went down the flying bill board route it would feel kind of wrong.
