V-Flyer

I'm off to New York in August and I'm on the VS009 leaving late afternoon,I live in Guernsey and will be getting the red eye over so I should be at Heathrow by 9am.

I'm guessing that there isn't a time limit in the Clubhouse but it does seem an awful long time to be there so just wanted to check?

Also, what do you reckon my chances are of being moved to an earlier New York flight??

Any advice much appreciated!

Don't really know about the chances of getting an earlier flight - I assume it will be dependent on your ticket bucket and loads.

The other bit of your question isn't a problem. There is no limit on the time in the clubhouse, though boredom will be a factor. There is only so much you can eat and drink.

Why not check in, then get the Heathrow Express into London for the day?

Yes whilst the attracttions of ther CH are there it is not really a day long destination.

As Nick said there is only so much you can eat and drink and you are limited to only one tratment in the spa (but being there all day would mean you have a high chance of getting one lol).

You could relive the boredom by walking round the shops but once done there is a feeling of 'been there done that'. You could come back out through immegration etc and take a visit to say T5 and check that out as it would fill in some of your time - depends on how big an airport geek you are !

Re earlier flight - you could ask when you check-in. Again it would depend on hoe busy the flights are but there is no harm in asking.

I arrived on a 9am flight to connect with VS1 leaving at around 4pm. There was no problem with that and there was a guy in the same section as me who was there before I arrived and still there when I left. He slept for most of the time and I suspected he had come in on a overnight VS flight and was due to leave on a later one that day.

As Nick said, boredom can set in after a while. Why not check your bags when you arrive in LHR and then head out on the HEX to London for the morning

Does flying in from the Channel Islands early in the morning actually qualify for red eye status?

Hey Tom,

I concur with Nick, re an earlier flight, it will really depend on the type of fare that you have and if a change is possible.

I'm from Guernsey too, any particular reason that you chose to take the first flight out of Guernsey rather than the mid morning one? you might find it easier to change your Guernsey to Gatwick flight and leave the island a little later.

If that's not an option then as mentioned maybe pop down to London for the morning, save sitting round the airport for hours.

The trip into London could be the winner I think if I can't get on an earlier flight.

Totallylost - I getting the first flight out as you know what it's like here, I just want to be sure of getting off the Island just in case there are delays from the day before or fog like we have today!

Plus getting to Heathrow, there could be all sorts of problems on the motorway, better safe than sorry I reckon!

I appreciate what you're saying as I have the same issue with getting off MY (albeit larger) island, especially as from my airport it's the same aircraft that shuttles back and forth to LHR. One glitch in the system first thing and it's b*ggered up for the rest of the day. One thing I do for the earlier VS flights is to fly over the night before and stay near LHR. Priceline will frequently give me a 4* hotel for a song

Totally agree with you Tom, I've been caught with the fog once before so these days I tend to leave the day before to make sure i'm in the uk. I'll be doin just that when I fly off to Cuba in 2 weeks. Better to be in the UK then stuck on the rock due to problems hey.

Do a trip down to London spend a few hours there and then head back to LHR. Beats sitting round the airport all day.
