OLCI and/or twilight check in for UC to MCO?

In the past when flying PE to MCO, I have done either OLCI the day before, or arrived at the Hilton early enough to do twilight check-in. The benefit of these options I was led to believe was that it saves time on flight day...Although I am yet to be convinced.
However, this year we will be flying UC, and again staying at the Hilton the night before, and was wondering if there was any real benefit in following either of these options, as I assume that we will by-pass any queues that may have formed anyway.

Your comments please?

Many thanks,

I would still do OLCI to get the seats that you want and then just go and drop your bags at UC check-in on the day.

Sorry to hear your experience with Twilight etc hasnt convinced you that its a good time saver. Personally, I think its brilliant & is one of the main reasons I continue to book with Virgin.

I Love it the next day when all you have to do is go through security & your in departures :)

I always look at the lines on the day & it always seems manic, even UC lines, as sometimes PE get called over to check in or there are people who have done OLCI but now have to drop their luggage. Even if there is only 1 person in the line in front of you they might be the family from hell with paperwork all askew & bags not the correct weight & then your left standing around waiting while you could be Airside enjoying a Mojito!

I tend to do OLCI to secure our seats, then Twilight to dump the bags, then the next day its a breeze, straight through to departures & duty free :)

last time i fle to MCO i turned up at LGW at 4pm the day before and checked in on a self service terminal to choose our seats then dropped our bags before proceding to our hotel. looking at the ques the following morning (8/4/10) this saved a lot of time as the VS desks were very busy. all that my family and i had to do was go straight upstairs through security and in to the V-Room.

i would recommend checking in as soon as possible to save yourself time in the morning and time spent in a que
i would also recommend the V-Room an exelent way to start a holiday.

Another reason to do OLCI is that the VS website says that if you have preselected seats the only way that this request can be honoured is if you do OLCI at least 13 hours before departure

As Tink and HL have already said, the only benefit for doing OLCI for me is to ensure I get the seats I want. I have never queued more than a minute or so at an UC desk so it won't really save you time.

We've never done OLCI or twilight check in when flying Upper to MCO.

In all the times we have flown from either, LGW, MAN or even GLA, we have never encountered a queue bigger than 1 in front of us for Upper, so its only been a few minutes wait. Even if its 2 or 3 families in front of you, it usually doesn't take that long. (your on holiday time to relax 8D )

The securing your seats is another issue that doesn't really bother us. To be honest, with only 14 seats in the Upper cabin and a bar that doesn't get used that much, there isn't really a bad seat available. I don't think in the 30 odd times we have travelled upper that we have ever been moved to a different seat that we had originally chosen - however, as always YMMV :)

I sometimes do OLCI when on leisure travel just to make sure pre-booked seats are secured but still go to UC desk to drop off cases. In many UC flights taken with VS I have never been moved from pre assigned seating so the OLCI is just an extra precaution.Often stay at Gatwick Hilton the night before early holiday flights but have never used Twilight Check in as need to load wash bags and previous days laundry into suit cases before departure.
