Hi guys, I'm sure this has prob been discussed elsewhere, but it is right that you have to now pay £25 when you apply for the US ESTA online? ?|

In short, no it is not right. ESTA is still "free". There are sites out there that will charge you £25 for effectively filling the form in for you. Link here to the US government website answer to the question.

I believe the US government has plans to start charging at some time in the future though when and the amount has not yet been set (ISTBC on this bit).

Hope this helps

Paul

There is a law passed by the US Congress to charge for an ESTA but this has not been implemented yet.

I always refer people to use the ESTA link on the US Embassy site. http://london.usembassy.gov/

There is NO need to use an outside agency - you only end up giving them the same info as you yourself would enter into the official form PLUS £25 !.

They don't (in fact CAN'T) offer a speedier service that doing it yourself.

Interestingly, on my recent trip to Chicago - I only needed to fill in the Customs card, and not the other form. Was this a one off for my flight (not on virgin metal), or is the ESTA now the only item required.
