OPUP on LHR NBO route in Y

Hi,

I have an upcoming flight to NBO from LHR in economy but it is a Y class (full fare economy)booking. I know that this route is always heavily over booked and even more so at this time of year.

I was wondering, in you experience what the likely hood is of getting an OPUP to PE? I know from experience if you ask about upgrades they always offer you the paid for option in LHR. I also know that if I was flying the return NBO to LHR it would not be unusual to get UPOP'ed to UC on a Y class fare at this time of the year. I know I can use miles but I would prefer to save for a redemption ticket.

FYI and Flying gold as well.

Thanks
Eddie

It will just depend on how full the flight is and how much they need to move pax. If the flight isn't full in Y, then the chances will be almost zero, if it is oversold then that is a different situation.

They will obviously try and get as many people as possible to pay or use miles to upgrade first, but then if the numbers still don't work, then you are probably in the best position to get an op-up, being Au and on a full fare Y ticket, but it probably won't happen until the lounge or at the gate. It would most likely be a 1 cabin upgrade to PE, with some PE pax then moving up to UC if PE was then over booked.

Thanks Neil,

That is exactly what I though and I know that this route is nearly always oversold by a very high %, something I was told by a few ground staff in the past.

You can check how the loads are looking but using the load check tool, which is in the schedules pages, the the Toolbox section on this site. Just select your flight number and date, and then hit the 'load check' button and it will show you what the current availability is.
