Silly question about laptops on flights

Hi Guys

Flying to LA in November in UC, i have a mac powerbook pro and an airline adaptor. I was under the impression you had to take the battery out of laptops to use them on board, but i obviously cant. Can anyone confirm whether this is so?

thanks in advance

Rob

No, you don't need to take the battery out.

The airline adaptor won't charge the battery, just hold the power at the level the battery was at.

But otherwise you're fine.

I tend to make sure I've fully charged my laptop in the CH before boarding, so when you arrive, it's still at 100%.

Some VS crew went through a phase a couple of years ago of asking people to remove lap top batteries when using in seat power. IIRC this was an over reaction to an overheating of a battery somewhere.

This was a discussion at the time.

When my friend Mike was selected for secondary security at the gast last year when we were goong tpo SFO on the mini party bus the chap asked Mike to take the battery out of his laptop. He was amazed that Mike (a) knew where the battery was and (b) how to take it out. He told us that 99.99% of people dont know how to do this and some didn't even realise their laptops had a battery !

How do people not know where the battery is - that is the quick shutdown button ;)

Unless you have a Macbook Pro as the battery is not removable.

I believe all Macbooks currently sold by Apple now have non-removable batteries.
