If you use OLCI but don't have the ability to print a board pass, do you have to go to the desk to collect one or can you use the kiosk machine to print one?

you can use whichever you prefer though of course, depending on which class you're in, the check-in area dragons is the swoop onyou will point you to the kiosks

regardless of whether I have the ability to print or not, I always go to the UC check-in desks. It's part of the experience for me.

Since the check-in area of T3 has been re-designed I've never been intercepted. When you walk in, just head to the desk as if you know where you are going. If you walk in and show the slightest sign of confusion, you'll be very quickly offered assistance.

even if you've printed a boarding pass, if you've got bags to check they'll print you a new pass anyway.

besides, who wants a piece of A4 when you can have a shiny purple pass?
