Missing miles - but added instantly after completing form.

I've not seen this before, but I noticed my recent Upper Class flight did not credit miles or tier points to my account. Only the "online checking" displayed in the statement summary.

I filled out a missing miles form and instantly received the message:

"Success! Your claim for missing miles has successfully been credited to your Flying Club account. Click here to view your updated account statement."

Does anyone know why the miles didn't credit automatically? This was a London Gatwick to Las Vegas flight and my flying club number was added to the booking and showed on the boarding card.

The instant miles claim process has been around for quite some time now.

I use it all the time rather than waiting for my VS flight miles to appear.

I think it just depends on for fast VS audit their flights. Flights arriving in the UK do seem to be credited quicker (often the same day) than flights departing the UK.

Amex MR transfers are now *almost* instant too (although they can take several minutes)

Instant miles is pretty fast, but faster still I noticed when sitting in the EWR clubhouse a couple of weeks ago that my miles for the flight I was about to board had already posted to my FC account!

I have found you can claim miles while still on the ground in your leaving country - I wonder if that could mean you could 'buy' miles by checking into a flight, and claiming the miles, but not travel (would be a rather expensive way to buy miles though).

I presume claiming partner miles are still a fair bit slower - for my recent trip to Chicago on Continental, the outbound miles posted within a week, but for the return, so far nothing a month down the line...

Claiming all types of partner miles has always been a lottery. n(

It is a lot better now than it used to be, but you have to keep an eye on all partner earnings, and be prepared to chase them up by sending documentation to VS, if they don't post after a month or so.

The system for claiming miles from VS flights seems almost spot on now. Like others, I have got into the habit of using it in Revivals as soon as my plane lands. It is nice to see the miles in your account just after you have got off the plane. :D I have never had Slinky's experience of seeing the miles in my account before the flight though. ):

The only time there seems to be a glitch with points for VS flights is if you upgrade at the airport.

I just hadn't seen such a delay with Virgin posting miles before. It has been over a week since my VS flight and no sign of it being posted. Normally they appear in a day or two. Was the first time they've not automatically posted for me and I had to use 'missing miles'.

I have found the same as RK. It always used to be quite quick and reliable. However, on my last two flights in July, they did not appear for a few days, so I did the missing miles claim. On both occasions, the OLCI note with 0 miles was there, but no real miles :)
