Air Sickness

I've flown to the states quite a few times, but on the last 2 trips I took I got really air sick and kept throwing up and getting cold sweats. I even got to a point were I had nothing left in my stomach to throw up and I just kept dry heaving, lovely :| It took me an hour or so after getting off the plane to feel better.

I actually cancelled a trip to Florida with my family last year, because I got so scared of getting air sick :(. I'm going away next year with my boyfriend, and I don't want to start freaking out before I even get on the damn plane, panicking about it will defiantly make it worse.

Anyone here ever suffered with air sickness? If so what's a good thing to take? I have heard ginger is a good natural remedy, but is there anything a bit more hard hitting that actually works?

I just wish I could afford upper class, then I could drug my self and sleep on one of those fairly decent bed/chair seats.

(Also I never get travel sickness from cars/boats/rollercoasters, just planes! :( )

My step mother is a very bad traveller, she gets sick on even the shortest car journey. That was until we gave her Avomine. They work for air, sea and road. They are pretty cheap but not sure if you can buy them over the counter in the UK. You can get them at online pharmacy though. One the day before you leave and then until you finish travelling.

It may be worth chatting to your GP about this - especially if you want something 'harder' than ginger.

It might be a good idea for you to try and remember what you drank / ate / did the day of your previous flights where this happened to see if there are any connections.

Did you for example eat something that you wouldn't normally eat (am not saying you had food poisoning but just reacted to something)

I'm pretty sure it wasn't a reaction to food - I always try and eat something plain and simple before flights and I never eat the food on board, apart from the bread rolls lol.

I've heard crackers are good to nibble before a flight, I'll try and get a packet of Jacobs =p

I'll make a Dr appointment and see if I can get anything from him.

Try Buccastem. They are brilliant.
I am not a doctor but I suffer from a form of panic attack that makes me feel very sick.
I have been taking these for a few years now when needed and they seem to work every time.

Hi Sarah

I am sorry to hear of your past experiences with air sickness. I'm afraid that I haven't got any ideas for sure fire cures but I know that getting anxious before you fly will not be at all helpful. I have suffered from anxiety and panic attacks in the past and found a few sessions with a life coach really helpful - we used the sessions to focus on the cause of my anxiety; the best £150 I ever spent!!!!!

Hope you find a way to conquer this...

Very best wishes
