Hi all
Update on flight late, this week two flights one over 2.5hrs delay today (Friday 13th!!!) at least 5hrs.
Anyone know what's going on ?

Hi, my wife and I are on this flight. VS043 will be operated by G-VWOW which normally operates out of LHR, which arrived this morning at 09:43 from SFO.

G-VWOW will make a short flight from LHR to LGW at 12:35 arriving 12:54. Gate opens at 14:45 and due to depart 16:15 to 16:35. Arrival time LAS is 18:50 - 19:00.

Apparently delays are due to knock-on from Kingston flight cancelled 48 hours ago.

At least you get V-port

Is this LGW-LAS flight today not going to cause chaos for Virgin as these LGW-LAS flights are nearly always full and the LHR aircraft will have less seats? then arn't Virgin going to have to offload quite a few people?

Correct, Happened to me in Feb, LHR plane replaced a LGW plane and VS off-loaded friends and family of CC first and then any late check-in pax.

Flipside, we and a few pax got upgraded from PE to UC (and more than likely, there pax with updgrades from Y to PE), due to the config of the plane. :w

The LHR 747's carry over 100 pax less than the LGW ones, so you would assume that some pax are going to have to be offloaded. Saying that, I imagine Virgin would have looked at what options they had and Vegas must have seemed that one that would cause the least number of problems, and at least they didn't just cancel the whole flight.

The MCO flights, which use 4 of the LGW fleet daily will almost be all full given that it is summer holidays and MCO is a prime holiday destination, so I imagine it would have been even worse to use it on one of those flights.

Friends / Family of CC travelling on 'staff travel' generally fly standby and only get on the plane if there is space and that is part of the risk they take. A friend of mine was 'stuck' in HKG for a couple of days a while back because of this. Paying pax will generally take priority over people using the staff travel perk.

There are all sorts of rules about compensation and rearranging flights if you are denied boarding (bumped) though an airline will ask for volunteers first - cheaper than denying boarding.

The LGW-LAS flight seems to be full most of the time, what happens if you are "bumped" on a package holiday ?

The link that tonty posted explains the rules for all flights.

It has to be said that holiday flights out of LGW,are subject to less overbooking than the LHR flights, as 'no shows' are much rarer. I think the Vegas flight still fits into the holiday category, but it is the most popular of the LGW for conventions and there are a few business people that use it.

You can never say never, but I think the chances of being forced off the plane are very, very small - there will always be those who volunteer - I have tried to volunteer on several flights, but never been successful.
