Just curious as to roughly how many Gold (and Ag and V50?) card holders VAA has?

I recall the general conclusion is 'lots' but numbers not released due to commercial confidentiality.

I think Tonty has is spot on and it is highly unlikely you will ever find an accurate answer.

There will probably be an awful lot of Ag card holders, it is relatively easy to obtain and then even easier to maintain. Au is more difficult, so the numbers will be less, but still probably more than you would imagine.

You won't find anyone who knows, VS keep it very close to their chest.

But I like puzzles ... I've been on flights with 1 Au holder and flights with 10 or more, although I'm frequently surprised at how few there are. So let's argue that there are 4 per flight (LGW/MAN will bring the average down) and there are something like 60 flight departures a day (ex-UK and to the UK) ... that's 240 Au's flying every day. Now it takes three UC flights to retain Au, four to get it ... if we go for the lowest (and therefore this would give the maximum potentional number of Au's based upon the easiest way to retain it with the fewest flights) assuming all are not new (building layer upon layer of degrees of error) - then with 240 AU's flying per day, every six days they all renew, and 356/6*240=14,240 which has to be an absolute maximum. I'd halve that or even quarter it as a measure of rationality ... but still probably several thousand.

On a slight tangent but backing up what someone else put about the speed of going from one level to the next.
We started using Virgin at the end of March when I joined FC.
By 6th May I was Ag
Yesterday (16th Aug) I went to Au.
So it's not taken too long.

Once thing I have noticed is that I get a different membership number for each level.

Tomorrow I'm going to pick up a rental car (through Avis) which work have booked for me. Should I give them my Silver membership card which I have on me, or should I give them my new Au membership number?

It won't matter - all of your flying club numbers are linked.

Don't worry about the change of numbers, Rich.
All of them are linked in the VS system. My son Chris bounces up and down like a yo-yo - he has had about 6 different numbers, and there has never been a problem.

One other quick question - as the car wasn't booked through the VS website link, 9as it was booked by the travel department at work) can I still get the miles?

Speaking to the crew on my recent VS32 they said there were 3 or 4 AU's on the flight and said this was about normal for the 'leisure routes', sometimes less, but not normally more.

They mentioned that the NY routes could have more on a flight.

Don't know if that helps in teh overall calculation of things.

You should be able to, providing the booking is in your name and not your companies. When you collect your car ask them to add your FC number to the booking, but I imagine you will have to go down the 'missing miles claim' form, so keep your receipts etc.
