New passport and IRIS

I think this has been said somewhere, but search was fruitless ...

In a couple of weeks I'll be spending a day in Ecclestone Square fast tracking a new passport (cannily a few days before ESTA needs to be paid for!).

Does anyone know, do you need to reregister for IRIS if your passport number changes?

According to this page, yes you will need to re-register for IRIS if you get a new passport.

I got a new passport when I was in HG a few weeks ago (it was full) and I had no problem coming back through the Iris in LHR.

I will pass back through the Iris again next week so if I get a problem I will report here. I dont think the passport number makes a difference as it will be referenced to the old number and the Iris checks your eye to match what it has on file so I doubt the passport number matters (just validity)

Yes you do have to update it.

Last October it didn't work for me on my new passport so on the next trip I when and checked with them.

They update your details on the computer, sit you down and check your iris match and then send you on your way.

Interesting, I got a new passport 2 months ago, went in to the Iris office in T3 on next trip and they told me I didn't need to do anything. Iris worked fine for me on way back in. However, make sure that if you have an ESTA that you update that or get a new one. That caught me out and I had to do an emergency ESTA application at checkin.

I am 99% sure that -

New Passport = New ESTA and not just update your existing one.

IRIS - ESTA - ESTA - IRIS let's call the whole thing off!

Strange how the mind reads things that are not there :o) .

I'll call by the IRIS booth to check meself methinks!

You never used to have to update IRIS and previously I'd changed my passport and IRIS continued to work. Then several months later I started having issues at the IRIS booths so I wonder if they changed something. I always pop in the IRIS booth just to be sure though, better that that be 'that person' who gets the blue arrow :)

Dragging up an old post, in the last three weeks I've been into T3 three times, third time lucky on Tuesday the IRIS office was open and they were registering people. I asked about the new passport thing and was told categorically no, I didn't need to update my IRIS registration. Good thing, especially since I'd been through IRIS twice with my new passport already ii) .
