Bag Drop at JFK

I've not flown out of JFK for a few years but did again recently. The Bag drop was such that the VS staff will tag that bags and then you take them over to a seperate scanning point.

Do they not use the baggage belts any more? or is this a temporary arrangement?

There seemed to be a mass of people waiting in that area so it got quiet congested.

The separate scanning point has been there for as long as I can remember!! It does get busy - forming a massive queue of its own!

AH ok thanks - I last flew from JFK in 2000 and back then the usual baggage belts took the bags off to the depths of the airport, so thought it might be a new thing.
