I managed to get from Red to Silver in FC in June this year. Since then I have made one round trip Economy and one PE trip to the US which earned me a further 10 tier points. This means my membership in Silver will renew in June next year.

I suspect in the next year I won't earn enough to get me to gold, so assume that any tier points earned in the next year will effectively be lost as I doubt I'll get to gold and can't start renewing Silver again until after June next year and they will lapse at that point?

Yes your points wont lap over to the following year, so unless you make gold before next june any points will just reset.
