These are the seats that I have provisionally selected (based on the choices online, when online check-in opens there will be far more to choose from...)

Aircraft each way is B747-400 Config 3.
O/B: Y: 63K
I/B: K: 32A

Hello!

My flight is less than three weeks away.

It's also the longest flight I have ever had, so I was wondering if anyone has hints or tips for the longer flight.

I am going to ask at LHR at check-in if I can use my miles for an upgrade, but am expecting a "no", my return flight is in PE so not so bad.

I had 64K on an SQ 747 (or whatever their equivalent is) a couple of years ago and liked the little bit of extra space to strech my legs. It was a bit noisy though being so close to the galley and toilets.

Wasn't as impressed with the rather fluid Australian sitting next to me who managed to ooze into my personal space every time I moved. But I doubt he'll be on your flight...

Whoops - definitely Jo'burg! :)

When online check-in opens should I consider a seat nearer the front of Y?

Also does anyone have tips for making the time pass? I tend to get bored of V:Port pretty quickly - assuming it has V:Port!

I like to watch box sets of stuff on planes. (currently on the 4th series of 'Spooks')

I find that watching an hour long chunk of something - have a drink, trip to the loo, read for a bit, then another episode, have a snooze etc, and the time soon passes. for some reason the time passes for me this way quicker than watching film after film.

Whatever you do, don't watch the skymap! It can make every flight seem twice as long.
