Don't think this has been posted yet but, for any of you in the USA who want a quick way to earn 50,000 MR points (convertable to 50,000 Virgin FC Miles) take a look at the latest AMEX offer on new Platinum applications. Strikes me as more generous than the one that we had here in the UK a while back which, from memory, was 40K MR points.

Thanks
James

IMHO a better offer from Amex is the Gold Business card - comes with 50k miles after you spend $10,000 in the first four months, (plus the miles for that $10,000) and NO FEE in first year. Thats 6 miles per $1 if you can hit that spend in 4 months. I did!

The Platinum personal card has a $450 annual fee, ouch, but a lower spend requirement. Save $450 if you think you will hit $10,000 US spend in the time frame. Or get both, Amex are open to that.

Note the Platinum Amex card, you must not have had one before - first time sign ups only.

Agree that the $450 fee on the Platinum Card is significant (equates pretty much to our £300 in UK).

I guess it all hinges on our own circumstances. For me it pays for itself with the Travel Insurance benefits alone thanks to the fact that you can have up to 5 supplementary card members who are then automatically fully covered with what is one the most comprehensive policies available...spouses, kids all included. Between myself/spouse, parents, brother & his family and other relatives we were previously racking up over £350 a year in travel insurance!

Additionally of course there's the 2 free Priority Pass memberships, hotel upgrades, and status elevations on HHonors & SPG.

Cheers
James
