Thanks for the update - so these aircraft must be nearing completion in terms of build? Any updates on the cabin seating?

Thanks for the update - let's hope things go to plan and the aircraft come on stream as scheduled.
Otherwise there will be plenty of folks having their hopes dashed (and then trying to claim compensation no doubt

)

So, G-VSXY - I wonder what she'll be called....
Any thoughts? We should have a "guess the name" competition!

Probably not when pax see how much it is going to cost them. Lets be honest, this is not going to be free is it.
Anyway, how many pax do you currently see making calls using the Skyphones? I don't think I ever seen anyone use these.

Am sure there will be the odd idiot who wants to phone their mum after they have had a few drinks. Or even their mate in the next seat !
Also I can see a few to customer services with complaints about the food or IFE !
Just because the tech is there to allow this does not mean VS has to activate it !
Maybe the CC will just forget to turn it on ...

So after years of airlines telling us how dangerous it is to leave a cellphone on, do they now change the message when they can make money out of it?
If it's safe on one aircraft, is it now safe on all?
What difference does it make if you use it just as you are nearing the airport? ... the runway? ... while landing?
Safety becomes quite complex when lines become confused.

I'm no expert but I believe it's something to do with the transmitter being within the plane meaning the phone doesn't have to work very hard. This means the phone will be happy to send very short range weak signals which presumably aren't dangerous whereas when the phone cna't find a transmitter it's banging out pulses as hard as it can - have you ever noticed how quickly your battery runs out when underground? Plane systems are pretty well shielded anyway since they're constantly being bombarded by radar microwaves.

The first registrations will be:
G-VSXY
G-VLUV
G-VGEM
G-VKSS
G-VINE
These have been allocated by the CAA to Airbus A330-343E aircraft registered to Virgin Atlantic Airways Limited. MSNs are available on other sites and pictures will soon appear on the airbus fan blogs.

Is there much/any comment on the possible problems - midnight cell-phone conversation and head-bashing annoyances?
Just wondering if anyone has an exit strategy if it all goes wrong.

I suppose there is always the option of a divert to Gander or Goose Bay to off load the miscreants.
I say again - just because the technology is there to allow this it does not mean it should be activated.
