Hi everyone,
Just looking on both the BAA and Gatwick website's and wondering how to find out where a flight has been diverted to? is there a website or anything that give information about diverted flights?
Thanks.

You would be best looking at the airlines website as they know where their flights are headed for as they will need to sort out coaches etc to move their pax about.

All very strange, the VS from Montego Bay into Gatwick was showing expected at 10:30 two hours ago, now showing as cancelled? VS website says the same?? All other VS into Gatwick show as "diverted".

The Montego Bay flight landed in LHR
Edited to add: Underneath the cancelled status on the VS website is the following message
Please ignore the above flight status Cancellation message. Due to adverse weather conditions at Gatwick, this flight has been diverted and is now scheduled to land at London Heathrow where it will terminate. Passengers will be transferred to Gatwick by road when conditions allow.
Why they couldn't have said that in the first place instead of putting the heart crossways on people trying to check someone's arrival time and thinking that they're still out in Jamaica is beyond me

Virgin do not have a good reputation for getting the small things right during weather problems.
I imagine that they just concentrate on getting people on the ground safely somewhere, and the niceties of accurately updating websites, keeping relatives & delayed pax informed, as well as other non-essential tasks go by the wayside.

Looks (to me) like the whole virgin gatwick operation has basically lifted and shifted to heathrow.

This will have a huge knock-on for the next few days as aircraft get repositioned once LGW opens the runway, assuming they don't get any more snow.

There's a further 15cm of snow forecast tonight for Sussex/Gatwick, and it hasn't let up all day so far!

I heard on the news that Gatwick will remain closed all day tomorrow (2 Dec) and not open until 0630 on 3 Dec at the earliest.

So currently sat in starbucks near my parents place in florida. Due to be on the 28 tomorrow (2 dec) but am guessing by the above posts it's now cancelled.
Haven't looked at the status of aircraft pages but am guessing that last nights MCO departures made it into LHR this morning?

Yes the MCO flights went in to LHR. MAN is still open so the 75/76 should still operate.
VS have confirmed no flights will operate to/from LGW at all tomorrow so imagine you could be in for an extended holiday for a few days Will!!

Thanks for your replies.
I hope Gatwick opens tommorow but I think it's looking unlikley, I live 10 minutes away from there and it hasn't stopped snowing all day!

Cheers mate. Looks like red box will become my best friend for the next couple of days. Now this will all make one interesting TR!
I guess I will join the masses and give VS a call. Whilst Facebook is official I will wait for the official word from VS.

Seems that many poor VS passengers haven't been advised what's going on...just one of many posts (from people in Orlando waiting to fly back) on VS's Facebook page >> "come on virgin let us know what the hell is going on !!!!!!!"

There's a message from Howard on the FB team that "ferry flights" are being sent out to bring people back

The
VF status page shows VXLG going out the MCO & VAST to ANU, both from LHR, today.
Lots of blocked seats showing on a very busy Expertflyer so there must have been some space on the MCO/LGW flights.
MAN flights typically rammed!

In this situation its very difficult to advise people what is going on when the situation is changing. I'm sure the VS Ops team are locked in meetings right now getting a flight plan together! (They are..)

do these people have no idea what is going on over here and the complexities of running an airline?
Gatters could well be open but as the roads and trains are so bu@@ered up how do the crew and ground staff get to work to be able to operate the flights?
Friend of mine who works for VS has been working at Swansea took 10 (yes TEN) hours to get back to Crawley and after 4 hours sleep walked to work to answer phones.

Just want to say that if people look at a non-UK news source, they will see that airports Europe-wide are being hit badly this week by the snow. Frankfurt, Munich, Lyon, Geneva to name 4, all of which get more snow than the UK normally does.
Yes, we are somewhat underprepared but we're not the only ones struggling!!

I just noticed that too Bill, assume they will be empty outbound and are being sent to get people back home, which fits with what Darren has posted above. It is a shame that they couldn't have got the pax over to LHR, but imagine that would have been very difficult to arrange.
What slots will VS be using, some of the cancelled ones?

Also looking at the state of LGW on Sky News its no wonder nothing is operating! Even the planes are frozen!
Just so you know - VS have a "all hands on deck" approach to this sort of thing - people from across the business are currently handling calls
