I had the prawns and the chicken on the way out.

The prawns were excellent. the chicken was fine. Nothing too special.

I washed down with a couple of glasses of the Sauvignon Blanc. That was lovely!!!!

Not bad, not bad at all but alas, I won't be sampling it as I have no plans to travel during that rotation

Thanks for posting this Tinks. It actually sounds quite good to me - I just hope that the food that is delivered lives up to the description in January.

Good to see that Virgin are going for more "normal" sandwich choices on the afternoon tea, i.e. ones that I could [and probably would consider] purchasing in the likes of M&S / Pret etc. (Lets hope we don't see the likes of the egg mayonnaise & sweet chilli sauce sandwiches return to VS!)

How can you find out what the menu is for other flights during the winter months - I am particularly interested in the LHR-DXB-LHR and the LGW-BGI-LGW menus? Are they published anywhere?

I think the menus for the BGI flights are the same as the USA flights. The DXB flights usually have an option which could be broadly interpreted as local as well as having turkey rashers instead of bacon.

The PE and economy options will be the same as posted as they do not change until March

It's lamb sausage instead of pork bacon.

The PE menu has possibly changed as well - I will find out.

Any ideas what one can expect from the CPT route...?

When we travelled to JNB last year I had lamb tomato bredie which is a kind of a lamb stew and very tasty.

Incidentally, when in SA and you order lamb from the menu, make sure it is Karoo lamb. The animals will have been reared on the Karoo which is a semi-desert with all kinds of herbs growing wild. It has a stronger flavour than lamb in the UK but it is delicious

I forgot to add this earlier, but the sandwiches listed on the menu weren't the ones loaded on the plane. I had an option of Chicken, ham, or cheese.

That can happen on the day of the menu changeover. I flew back from EWR on the day of the last changeover and the soup was an entirely different one.

They also didn't have menus - forgot to load them in LHR when leaving so we all had typed sheets of paper with the menu printed on them

Roller coaster ride? Do you know something I don't, Mike? At my age I need my journey to be predictable, smooth and - dare I say it? - uneventful. Granted, it won't do much for the TR, but it will suit me just fine.

All sounds positively lambtastic, HL. In fact, over the years I think lamb is on one of the dishes that VS have managed to screw up the least. Fond memories of the much feted lamb shank, anyone? And sampling Karoo lamb is a must.

Christopher - my apologies. For some reason I thought you were DA. No idea why. Maybe it's the beard. The ageing process takes its ugly toll on each of us. Now, where did I put my glasses...?

I'm glad that I currently have no plans to fly during this winter menu, doesn't appeal to me. Would yet again have to forgo a starter and force down the main course.

With the mini burger, there was something similar on the autumn menu and must of been popular as I was unable to get one, but was also told by the CC that one person had 3... v(

Food looks awesome thanks tinks, if there was improvement on vs it really is with catering as i have only had good food this year compared with the crap of last year.

Sure I like a portion of warm 'n' gloopy as the next man, just something semi normal, but at least I would eat one of the main courses on the inbound, out bound it would be a PE meal.
