New FC Reward: Combination Reward

*****UPDATE ON THE FOLLOWING******
Since 16Dec this has been rolled out to all VS routes even those originating overseas.
*****************

Now I have to state this is on a trial basis only at the moment, and I had previously started this thread about it: forum/index.php?f=4&t=265703&rb_v=viewtopic

However, I don't think enough people have realised that it's there.

So the Combi Reward is basically where you can travel one way using your miles, and the other way at a lower priced published fare (instead of the normal J, W or Y Full fare "one-way" tickets.

This is only available on flights ex UK to the USA ONLY at the moment, and up until now has only been available as the following:

ONE WAY using miles in G (upper), U (Prem Econ), or T (Econ, and
ONE WAY published fare in either Y, B, L, Q, X, N or O (ALL Economy), if available.

From today onwards, VS have increased this to Premium Economy published fares too, so the scenario could now be:

ONE WAY using miles in G (upper), U (Prem Econ), or T (Econ, and
ONE WAY published fare in either W, S, K (Premium Economy), Y, B, L, Q, X, N or O (Economy), if available.

This is to try and get rid of the hassle that only being able to find mileage seats for one sector of your journey, and being unable to use your miles because it's impossible to find a return seat forcing you - if you want to use your miles - to buy a full-fare return ticket.

Of course it's also good news for people that haven't accrued as many miles, as they can use their miles for part of the journey too (for e.g. NY one way in Economy at the moment would ony be 14,750 due to the mileage redemption sale!)

I hope I've explained that well enough, any questions I'll do my best to answer!!

Was on the phone to FC last night, and the lady I was talking with said it's quite restricted in terms of routes and dates right now.

She implied that New York was a good bet for this...

So, don't be surprised if you get the answer "not on that route" or "not on those dates" as it's a quite restricted trial I was lead to believe.

That sadi, I think this is a good step forward and will help many out....probably including me!

Like I said, it's only available on routes ex-UK to the USA at the moment..... No date restrictions as far as I know.

Another step in the right direction IMHO. y) y)

Like Neil, I think the addition of PE redemptions is great.

Hope the trial is a success and the scheme is introduced permanently system wide.

Nick

That's really good news...

Now we need the VS website to come into the 21st century!!! (Apparently, this is fairly imminent, an FC agent told me that the new website should be launch before too many more months).

Anyone used/called up about these new rewards. Apparently you can buy a one-way flight and get the return leg for half the miles of a straight return reward. No clues as to the price of the one way leg you pay for though other than it being 'less than you'd pay for a published one-way flight'. If the cost is near-ish half a return (lowest) published cost this will be good value way of spending the miles. Never liked miles plus money because of the pathetic discounts and the fact you pay nearly full price for no miles earned either.

There is a long discussion about them here..

I don't have time to merge the threads now.

As per Nick's post above, I have merged the threads to keep things tidy and all the information in one place.

Thanks so much for merging these. I wouldn't have found this otherwise!
