Connection time in LHR?

Later this year I'll be travelling EWR-LHR-NBO. The outbound suggestion thrown up by the booking system is to take the 0800 from EWR-LHR and connect with the 2100 from LHR-NBO. But this only allows 1 hour connection time. Has anyone else, by any chance, taken this combination of flights before? How was the connection? It'd be a nervous first leg for me, I think.

Cheers.

This is VS018 to VS671 and it is right on the minimum connecting time....
You are in the same terminal, you won't have to touch your bags (knowing LHR throwers, probably for another three days or so!)

This is guaranteed by the airline so if there are any problems between the time you check-in at EWR and the time you land at NBO, they will help you, put you up overnight or make alternative arrangements.

Are you lookin in Upper or in PE or Economy. In Upper I would say go for it as you can run first off the flight, in anything else, I would be very worried.

Having said that, if I was in Upper, take the 21:10 flight the night before and you have 11 hours and 35 minutes in the Clubhouse!

Thanks eejp1007,

Yes, the other option would be to spend all day in the CH! If they had bedrooms I could prob be more up for that to have a little sleep!

I'll probably be flying PE; I have a spare W fare I could use and so could potentially upgrade to UC with miles.

However, thanks for pointing out the baggage problem. I'm going on from NBO to Dar-es-salaam. I don't think they'd transfer my baggage to DAR if it got delayed at LHR. So the class of travel might not help if there's a risk of not getting my bags. Hmmmm, I'm FC Gold so I'll check the baggage allowance. Perhaps I could manage with hand luggage only, that would solve the prob. : )

if it was me i'd change the connection to give longer. Delays out of EWR are common due to a busy airfield, air traffic delays into LHR are almost guaranteed, plus ground delays such as planes not being moved off gates & no ground staff to drive the air bridge are more & more common. For example last week it took 40 minutes from touchdown to doors open on VS6 from Miami to LHR.

Personally i hate to sit on a 7 hr flight worrying about my connection the whole time

The only difference with this is that VS18 leaves at 8am which means that the aircraft is in situ overnight so no delays with the incoming flight and EWR hasn't cranked up to full capacity. Generally speaking it pushes back early and arrives on time or even early

Thanks all for your helpful input.

I've flown out into EWR a few times and there has always been a delay coming into the gate. It is a busy terminal. But I've only ever left once from EWR, on the 0800, and it left on time, most likely as you say because its in situ overnight, but it arrived at the gate in LHR 40 mins late mostly due to delays finding a free gate.

I think I'll not risk the 1hr layover. I'll prob be flying UC and I could prob carry only hand luggage but even with that it'd only take a 30 min delay for me to likely miss the connection. I'll post a TR and let you know what happens : )
