Travel insurance and how age hurts

Had a shocker - opened the American Express travel insurance renewal this morning for the #1 and myself (all dangling bells policy) and it's shot up from £250 to £570 :0 :0 :0 .

And all because he's edged over 50 v( .

Spoke to nice lady, with tweaking we've got it down to £429.

Still ... open to suggestions please (noting worldwide, lots of travel, business included, no lethal sports, collision waiver damage and all sorts!)?

AmEx Plat charge card? Or is the level of cover not good enough?

I use the Natwest insurance provided as part of their advantage gold account, just £12.99 a month, covers my partner too!

I dont bank with natwest but just transfer £12.99 to the account each month.

You can add business insurance for around £50 by calling up.

It's 5 star defaqto rated policy, good stuff!

Over 50 myself and pay nothing like that amount for annual multi-trip. Try http://www.flexicover.co.uk for at least a comparative quote online.

Try Columbus Direct. My husband and I are both over 60 with medical conditions and our annual policy is around £150 for both of us. Also you can do the medical stuff online so saves a phone call.

We use InsureandGo for ours - it went down in cost from the last year, as they have changed underwriters. This means that a long term medical condition that I have and DH's broken arm of a couple of years ago, are now covered free of change and without the hefty increase in premium last year!

"Try to get yourself a bargain son/ Don't be sold on the very first one / My mama told me, You better shop around". Wise words from Smokey Robinson there. I think it's more that they are playing on your intertia to hike the your rate rather than #1 being over 50.

This past month I've had £150 increase in my car insurance from NatWest. Now I know the cost of insurance has risen but I managed to find a like for like policy on line for about £130 less than the NatWest quote. When I spoke to NatWest telling them I wanted to cancel, they suddenly found themselves able to drop the policy cost by £125.

We use Nat west Advantage gold Travel insurance and find it very good,Nat west car insurance use UK Insurance to under right most of there insurance policies as do Direct line, and Churchill who are all part of the RBS Banking group also they offer you free breakdown cover from Green Flag, again part of RBS,I have found that lloyds TSB give the best value on Home insurance,Car Insurance Lv. I always shop around to get the best deal. The worst around in my opinion AA and Saga who are both owned by Saga say they look after us older people. I want value for money not to be ripped off.

I insured my 70+ mother using Insure & Go and it was a reasonable price, £120 if I remember correctly for an annual worldwide cover, but that didn't include any thing for driving, just the middle range cover for health and accident etc.

If your Dad has an income, another way would be to look at getting an amex platinum. Its a 300 GBP per year charge for a charge card, but includes a good insurance policy that covers all that insurance and car hire additional's, (and lounge access) and less than the 500 they wanted from you!

I don't think there is loading on it due to age, but check the T&C's before applying. However I think you need a reasonable income to get one (20K p.a. if I remember correctly)

Presumably pre-existing conditions need to be notified for the Amex Platinum policy?
