transfer miles between accounts/ do family accounts exist?

what is the scoop on transferring miles from one VS account to another? we have two accounts with miles in them we'd like to combine.

BA have a 'family' account system, where members at the same address (e.g. a couple) can pool their miles. That makes a lot of sense, but I don't think VS have the same, do they? Would be a great idea, for anyone lurking out there from management!

You cannot transfer miles between accounts. You can however use miles from 2 different accounts to make reward bookings though (providing you use enough from each account for a oneway reward).

You can't gift miles from one account to another - that would be the same as transferring them - but you can buy miles as a gift to someone else's account

I thought "gifting" was buying miles to give to someone else, not transferring them from your account to another

Always remember BA are substantially more family friendly than VS.

1. Household Accounts
2. Children can earn miles in Paid seats

VS in comparison to the above, give you a crappy red bag (1) with kids stuff off some market stall & lets you earn 1000 miles if you put your pet in the Hold.. So not much difference really.. B)

Note 1.( If you are flying to Caribbean or MCO from MAN or LGW)

VS Gold can (according to the T&Cs) have a faimly account:
a) Members who have qualified for Gold membership status in the Flying Club programme and have Gold status when Virgin Atlantic receive and process the application, can enrol a maximum of six children aged between 2 and 17 years of age, who reside at the same home address as the Gold member, to earn Flying Club miles. Family members enrolled in this way will be enrolled into a Family Account.

NH beat me to it on our favourite subject!!!:-)

Neil is right though, we keep coming back!

Didn't know that about AU status - still, it won't affect me as my leisure travelling doesn't quite get me that many tier points!

Interesting! - Is this only for children, or can I enroll (I am Au) my better half in this 'family' with her (non Au) account?

Yes, you can enrol your sig other in a family account and they get Ag membership. Also, if they do, you can use their miles for your own flights, or for other reasons.

For example, my #1 is in my 'family' account, has a Ag card, has his own VS Amex, and I get access to the account to use the miles however I want.

But, this is only available to FC Golds ... I agree with others about VS's non-family friendliness.

Penny - you totally made my week!

thank you - so basically, if you are Au, then VS DOES have a family account of sorts. They keep it well hidden though!

Mucho appreciated.

With the SSA, the AU card holder can spend any miles that may be in the SSA. This is only one-way though, the SSA cannot spend any miles from the AU account.

If the family member you choose to be your SAA is already a red FC member they will be upgraded to AG and you have instant access to any miles they already may have.

A follow on question to this. Has anyone out there ever tried to get SSA miles transferred into their account? Reading the T&Cs it doesn't look possible but thought I would ask just in case.

Reason i ask is my imminant loss of AU :# and it would be nice to get the miles if at all possible.

GP the rules say no. I did once mix SSA and my account miles in unequal quantities for an award, but I think I befuddled the VS person I spoke with to make that happen.

You won't lose the SSA miles, the acocunt will revert to Red and the miles will stay ...

Thanks Slinky, thought that was likely the case.

Actually, there is a way for your significant other to transfer their entire FC miles balance over to you without having a family membership.

But seeing as I am about to head into work and I am feeling just a tiny bit evil AND you are smart people, I am thinking you will figure it out.
