Air New Zealand Reward Booking Class?

Greetings,

I'm thinking of redeeming 75k of my VS miles for a business class reward on Air New Zealand LHR to LAX, saving 25k miles against flying UC.

What fare class do ANZ business redemption from VS book into?
Is there an on-line availability checker (I can use Expert Flyer if I know the right class to search)?

Thanks

I seem to recall that ANA has a tool on its website that enables you to check reward availability. I don't know how it works but others may well be able to help with this

I think the ANA tool (and others) only shows reward availability for frequent fliers of that airline (or alliance).

I know from bitter experience with SQ, that an airline may not offer the same availability to people holding partner miles when compared to the seats for their own customers.

Reward booking using VS points on partner airlines has always been a trial of endurance and patience which, AFAIK still has to be done on the phone to Flying Club. n(

Business = Upper Class, right?

If so I'd be surprised if VS allow you to book a partner reward flight for less VS miles, on a route they do themselves.

Happily surprised, that is!

whoops - just looked and you are right- they do allow this. very odd.

You can't fly NYC>LAX, but can fly LHR>LAX, (on ANZ) - why not?

That means I cant do NYC>AKL all on ANZ for miles. sad.

Or: is that list of partner destinations final, or just examples?

Erm - Air New Zealand don't fly into New York, or have I missed something in your question?.

You could earn miles on a Virgin American flight to LAX, but not spend them. Continental are a possible spending partner for first class travel within the 48.

I don't think the price for that would be very appealing! Lol

I really wouldn't waste FC miles on a reward with one of the 'legacy' US carriers (Continental, US Airways etc).

The on board product and service is pretty second rate compared to VS, NZ etc, and the fares are generally pretty low anyway so you won't save oodles.

Agreed. Earlier this year I went NYC>LAX for about $145 on Virgin America(EC) and you EARN miles, rather than BURN them! Good flight, modern plane, very happy.

Of course if you want an all Upper Class trip for that special occasion it might be worth looking at CO or whomever.

My hope is you will eventually be able to spend VS miles on VX, and get to be in the pointy bit that away.
