First time LHR to Miami in UC

Hi all :) first time posting, I've been lurking for a while :D but thought I would bite the bullet and join in :D

Hubby and I are flying from LHR to Miami in September in UC, it's out first time in UC and also to Miami, so I'm out of my depth a little bit.

We have reserved seats 9A & 10A, hopefully these are going to be quite good, unless anyone knows any different.

I've read through some of the old threads on UC and see that the lounge at Heathrow is very popular :D I guess we are in for a treat then.

I've got to book a hotel at Heathrow and think I have decided on the Sheraton (the nice one), but I don't know whether to go for breakfast at the hotel or get it at the clubhouse? Any advice from the seasoned clubhouse users out there would really help. Our flight doesn't leave until 11.50 so we will have a bit of time to kill.

So any advice or recommendations you can give would be greatly appreciated. So if I am going for a rotten hotel at the airport or have chosen bad seats then please let me know.

Thanks :D

Hello and welcome!!

I would 100% recommend breakfast in the clubhouse! The service and quality of food will be far better than the Sheraton!

I loved the simple cheese on toast, to the point I wish I could get this somewhere other than the clubhouse!

Have a great trip!

Luke :)

Welcome to V-Flyer :)

I normally stay near Heathrow too to make for an easier trip in the morning. Personally I never have breakfast at the hotel as why pay for something which you'll get shortly, included in your fare.

Having said that though, I never travel to the airport on an empty stomach - seen too many episodes of BBC's Airport where passenger do that, faint and miss their flight. I normally have 3 or 4 posh cookies that contain stem ginger to keep me going with a strong cuppa.

Just a quick one; leave the hotel as early as possible, no breakfast; spend as much time in the CH as you can! We did about 5 hours before our honeymoon - could've stayed all day. Food was really good but you need to get the cocktails going before 8am - I managed 2 redheads, Mrs Monster only managed one (with a pot of tea). Enjoy!

Thanks Luke and Darren for the welcome :)

Darren, where do you usually stay at the airport? We have a 280 mile trip to get to Heathrow so would like somewhere that is comfortable with internet access.

I usually end up at the Holiday Inn M4/J4, normally because I get it as a mystery hotel on either Lastminute.com or HolidayExtra.

Welcome.

I would def suggest using Holiday Extras for hotels. mist of the Bath road hotels are of -similar standard. The last couple of times we have actually stayed at the new Travelodge for £9 or £15 booked during their sales and booked car parking separately.. Perfectly fine for 1 night and if you are staying on a weekday night, hell of a lot cheaper

Regarding Internet, I think unless you have some sort of status at the hotel that gives it to you free, all the hotels will have a stupidly high daily rate of around £15 for net access.

My tip is once you have checked in and dumped your bags and used the private security channel is to head for the CH and then go straight to the spar to book your treatment.

Don't dally in duty free (you can go back later) or find somewhere to sit, order a drink and food and then think about booking.

Do all that once you've been to the spa reception. It won't guarentee you a treatment but might help beat the slow coaches!

Another vote for Holiday Extras; usually get a good price for one of the 4 star hotels. Having said that, we booked direct with Holiday Inn for our Monday night stay next week - seemed to be better value if not using the hotel for parking. Watch for the initial price though; its exclusive of taxes (VAT), American style. Plus we've found that the sooner you book, the cheaper the deal; both direct or through a 3rd party. Hope this helps.

Welcome :)
The mystery hotels on Holiday extras are usually easy to work out and are usually a goood deal particularly if you need a parking package (we too have a reasonable schlep up to LHR). The Sheraton on Bath Road has an indoor pool and can be a bit noisy with lots of families. The Holiday Inn M4 or the Crowne Plaza near it are usually where we stay as they're near enough to walk to our favourite pre- trip Indian restaurant. Don't bother with the Hoppa bus -book a taxi with a local cab firm (not one arranged via the hotel) as with two of you travelling the price will be the same and you won't be visiting loads of other hotels.
Don't bother with breakfast in the hotel :D - the CH will see you well fed and watered ): ): .

Tonty, you had me wondering why they would add on a convenience store to the CH :P

OP, I too would have breakfast in the CH.
And don't worry about killing time, it will go very quickly in the CH

Isn't it obvious? To stock up on sandwiches for the flight ): ):
