Virgin IT at it again

Just had an email from FC
No Subject
They the got the name in - but no content to the "letter"
And no working links apart from to the standard FC login.

Excellent!!

I did see that they are advertising for a new website role - looks like they will hire someone specifically to vet the website and hopefully email content!

i have had 2 of those e-mails today one sent at 10:32 and another at 10:41
and as Bill says none of the links work and there is no content to the message

Honestly - how does a company the size of VS send an email out in error?! I really can't believe it.

True :-p, imo a lot of the crawley staff are underpaid for the job they do, but if Virgin can fill the position, and no strong unions/union recognition, why bother putting wages up.

Although it could be the reason why they send out an email by accident.

Oddly my email had been dated february with my mileage from february, it really is quite shocking for a company apparently "this big"

Just received the following:

While the original sent to me did have the name, FC id & mileage included, indicating that it was genuine, it appears that some - like this apology, only had "Dear Member".
A clear suggestion that it could be a phishing email.

There has been some considerable upset caused in some quarters until there was confirmation that VS had made a mistake.

Unfortunately this may attract phishing emails in the future.
I believe that VS, like the banks, should state that any email without your name included should be treated as suspicious and links to login to your account should NOT be followed.

It does seem that a 6 hour+ response time to this is excessive. v(

And now a contrite follow up mail, however nonetheless trying to shift blame onto their 'supplier' - would that be someone that pays even less than £20k I wonder...

Maybe I'll complain to SRB for the pain and distress this whole sorry episode has caused me. Worth at least 10k miles...

Interesting to also note the small print:
This email communication makes use of a "Clear Image" (gif) to track results of the email campaign. To turn off tracking for future emails, you can do so by turning off the images in the email itself.

It effectively means that VS will know if you have opened a particular email whenever you have images enabled.
Each email includes a web address of an invisible image. That web address is specific to each email. Open the email and you open the image - and that is then recorded.
Big brother is watching you!
Maybe I'll complain to SRB for the pain and distress this whole sorry episode has caused me. Worth at least 10k miles...

So don't complain if you did not open the email or click the link - She Knows, You Know!

Yes, and I do have images turned off by default for that very tracking reason, but it was such a puzzling email that I enabled them just to see if it brought any more clarity to the situation. Which it didn't!

Many many companies now use email tracking, it's just that VS tell you they are doing it.
