First trip on Upper soon with other half - I'm sure there will be differring views but what would you choose 8A/K or 8A/9A and why
Its a Boeing 747-400 Seating configuration 1
Note that rows < 8 are not available and assume that we are on speaking terms

Well A-K are opposite eachother so you will be able to see each other but not close enough to have a conversation without shouting.
A-A obviously next to each other but with the wall of the suite in the way.

9A is my preferred outbound seat on a 744 (config 1/2), as you all but get the overhead bin above the seat to yourself and on a daylight flight, you get the sun on the A-side too.
For flying home, I like 9K (again on 744 config 1/2). Same overhead bin reason & also you get to see the sunrise on the K-side, in the unlikely event that a drink or two and the flat bed of the UCS has not allowed you to sleep.

I've booked 8 & 9 A for my forthcoming trip on the 744. Lots of recommendations!

8A and 9A, 8K would be too far away for me.
Very nice bit of the cabin (if it's anything like the LHR A-Zone, not flown on LGW/MAN fleet)

Also my husband had 8a on plane back for Chicago and was almost next to the bar, people kept him awake all night. 9a is right opposite, the girl from that seat was at the bar with friends. I walked by to go to the loo and heard staff telling them they had been told they were no longer allowed to serve them alochohol. Next time I went to loo they were still there with water!
