V-Flyer

I've just logged onto my FC account to find there's now an option to trasnfer miles from my account into another persons account... Fabulous I thought... Until I found out that to transfer 30,000 miles from my FC acount to another FC account would indeed actually cost me £240...! It's £240 to buy 30,000 miles...!! Is it me? or have I missed something here?? One would assume that it would be free to transfer miles between accounts, one would also assume that by giving the option for members to transfer miles between accounts it would cut down on the admin work for the call centre, and the need for passengers to ring in to book two flights with miles from two accounts.

You might assume that, but it's pretty normal behaviour. I recently transferred some of my AA miles to the #1's AA account to book reward travel, AA also charges ...

Oh come on be fair, being able to transfer miles between each other, especially on-line, would just make things far to easy for us and nothing for the poor old hard pressed admin team to do

It would also create a whole new industry of selling points on EBay or wherever.
I agree that transferring within the family wouldn't hurt the airlines, but I am sure people would think of ways of fiddling it if it was brought in. 8D

Sometimes it is better to speak to an agent if booking tickets from two accounts as there have been examples where people have bought extra miles and gifted them when they didn't actally need to and once gifted you can't gift back the same miles

Seems a bit of a con if it does cost the same to transfer 30,000 miles than it is to buy them... effectively you lose 30,000 miles.

I agree if no charge, people would sell them, but seems a bit excessive.

Never posted before - however, i have bought a few miles and 30,000 niles would cost 465.00 including the 15 pound fee.

Well thats not so bad, still a rip off imo

They don't want you to do it, plain and simple. It benefits people who don't fly much and want to pool miles, and there is little incentive to let those kind of frequent fliers do this with ease. If you have a lot of miles, and want a reward flight or upgrade for someone else, you can just book it with your own miles, no point in transfers. It is totally standard behavior. Some, like BA, have the concept of a family account, which is nice, but that's as good as it gets.
