V-Flyer

Bit of fun on VS2 last night as an intoxicated PAX in UC decided he would alert the crew to his state by taking his trousers off in the aisle, ready for bed presumably. Unfortunately for him we were still boarding, and he was politely told to de-board. "the easy way or the hard way" It went easy.

I have a smidgeon of sympathy for the chappie, as the plane was 2.5 hours late, so 4-5 hours in the windowless Newark lounge had its toll on all of us, when a 21.20 departure turned into 23.45, but... he could barely get through security, and I guess the safety risk was too much to allow him to sleep it off onboard.

Given that thread was aimed at CH staff IIRC then the staff at New York failed miserably v(

No way to know if arrived at JFK drunk.

Given the check in time, delay and reference to the 4-5 hrs in the lounge I think it is more than a fair bet that is where he either got drunk ot topped up.

If he turned up drunk and managed to check in and not drink for that amount of time I would say he would either be sober(ish) or fast asleep in a heap or is that just what I would have done )

it also begs the question why the TSA let him through if he was that drunk. Surely their job is security that's more than checking for liquids but also stopping potentially dangerous pax getting on board too.

And why did the EWR CH staff kept serving him too?

Oh dear.... I can see how 4-5 hours in the CH could easily have been the cause.

I am surprised he made it onto the flight. It makes you wonder if the CH staff and gate crew have been briefed in the same way as perhaps UK ground crew, UK CH staff etc.

Surely he was just as drunk 10 minutes earlier when the gate crew took his boarding pass and invited him on board??

He may have been more drunk that we thought if turned up at JFK for the VS2

You never know, this person may of behaved very well in the clubhouse, and maybe only had a few drinks. How is anyone meant to know how quickly someone will get drunk? There is no measure for how drunk someone is, everyone is different. So not always the staff to blame, nor should it ever be really, you should know you limits and how to behave for a flight.

There are several bars at EWR TB, but why go to one when the Clubhouse staff will happily keep the drink flowing 'for free'!

As a side note, I find a lot of misplaced piety in these subjects, we regularly have 'Hello from the Clubhouse' posts celebrating drinking hard liquor at 7 am, then there's a host of comments when it's all to much. I try to avoid this myself ... v(

Hamster was not blaming the staff but don't they have a duty not to serve already drunk pax though I appreciate it can be hard to work out who is drunk and who isn't and it's easy to drink more than you intend with ongoing top ups of your glass.

I read that one US state tried to extend bar rules to planes flying over it so the pilot would be held responsible for this just like a bar manager on the ground but I don't think it got very far

Avoid what? The drinking of hard liquor at 7am? I quite agree. I shall not be doing it myself at that time tomorrow. 8am possibly but definitely not at 7am

Avoid the misplaced piety, obviously not drinking a mojito for breakfast ii) .
