Can anyone tell me wether the standard issue VS headsets will successfully stay attached to the ears of a five year old? Is it worth buying a pair beforehand that will?

I am not exactly sure, but given the way they fit, it is probably worth taking a pair just in case.
As has been discussed in many previous posts, I found that a walkman with story tapes / CDs is a great boon for 5 years olds anyway, just in case the IFE does not have enough to occupy them for the full flight.

What I have done in the past for my 3 year old lad is to buy some new presents and wrap them up and then hand them out slowly as the flight progresses. Kidz love anything new!:D This has kept him occupied for ages:D:D.
Cheers!

Don't have toys with too many small pieces - you or the child will spend the whole time picking the bitss off the floor.

kids love watching the world at 600mph and theres no better way than nailing than gaffertaping them to the underside of the wing, next to the number 2 or 3 engine - they get warmth from the turbines and you get to keep an eye on them

Welcome back chefknife;);)
Fortunately, we have more of a sense of humour here, than some of the FT moaners, so i don't think you will get the sameamount of flak for a post like that[}:)][}:)]

I think a roll of sticky tape will do the job just perfect

I would say bring your own 'over the head' ones!!
They will be more comfortable for them.
You can always the ask the crew for a pair, there are some over the head ones onboard, just ask the crew.
