Great forum
Am returning from ANU on VS34 12/8 and it appears that the family have been preallocated seats, one upstairs and three downstairs.
Cant change in "My Booking" and imagine flight is fairly full which may limit opportunitiies at OLCI. Wont be early at check in due to connecting flight.
Family not happy, any suggestions?

If you get in quickly at OLCI then you are likely to be able to get the change you want - remember that only 60% of seats are available to be requested prior to then, with the other 40% released at OLCI. It's worth checking an hour or two ahead of T-24 hours because sometimes these seats open up ahead of the official start of OLCI

Its best for you to do OLCI
before your connecting flight, as RC says you should get lucky if you are one of the first to do so becuase a large number of seats are released then.

I guess you are travelling in PE.
It is worth you checking via the Manage Your Flights section of the Virgin Atlantic site on a regular basis (daily) for changes. Seats can and do come available at anytime for all sorts of reasons. Virgin Holidays will have also taken a block of seats and, at some stage, will release back into the mix the unsold ones. If you are travelling with VH (and are blessed with unlimited patience) you could try their customer services and explain the issue. Good Luck. y)

Thanks for the responses
Am flying PE but not with VH, If they are preallocating seats does this mean the 60/40 rule doesnt apply and if PE is full there will be little chance of seats being available at OLCI?
Wouldnt be so bad if we were in sight of each other but on different floors!!!!!
Why dont they put a simple line in their pre allocation software that allocates PE seats on the same floor?

VH have the front part of the upstairs PE set aside for them to pre-allocate but the reality is that they are often not taken in their entirety so these get released into the general pool usually a few hours before OLCI opens. It is worth checking then. Sometimes no more seats are released at OLCI because the plane is full and in that case the earlier you can get to the airport, the better.
As for the software.....don't mention the war! the VS software is sadly wanting on so many levels as you may well find out if you stick around and read a few more posts
