Simple question:

When in Upper Class, is it acceptable to sleep in just your underwear?

No.

What makes you say no?

A no from me too - essentially it's a public place, not your own bedroom, and I for one don't wish to see anyone in their underwear.
I also think someone stripping off (and I really do mean stripping off :0 ) to change in the cabin (and I've seen it several times ) is a no no (although it is rather amusing just for the reaction of other passengers and crew ) ).

Because it's a semi public place. Would you sleep in your underwear in the office, on a bus, nope, not quite direct analogies but it's not like you're in a private hotel room, or your own house is it?

And just imagine the horrendous sights if this was encouraged. Men with pee stained pants walking down the aisle ... however I am sure inkiboo that you look just delightful in your sleeping attire which I am sure is demure and looks like this .

Another big no from me. You wouldn't do it in economy so why should UC be any different. One expects a certain level of decency, and with underwear there really is no way to ensure that is met. The airlin

Indeed Luke, I can think of a few individuals that I would, grudgingly, allow to sleep in their underwear without kicking up a fuss.

Sadly unlikely to happen though so I'll just throw my hat in with everyone else and say 'NO'!

I would say no.

Although one could argue that people wear similar or less on the beach, you are in a lot closer proximity in an aircraft and that makes people feel uncomfortable. You don't want to be scraping past some strange man in his teeny weenies to get to the WC in the middle of the night....

Although many people might be comfortable enough to just wear underwear, it is considerate to others to cover up.

In my experience, keenness to remove clothing is very often inversely proportional to attractiveness...

(if you have ever been to a "topless optional" beach in the Carribean (on a US cruise ship) you will know what I mean).

I am sure the answer is no -- but given the ridiculous cabin temperatures I've experienced, not to mention those awful synthetic pyjamas, I can see why the question arises...

I'm in no way prudish, but I'm firmly in the no camp too. The black sleep suits are hardly flattering and may make people look like they are wearing sacks, but they do cover up stuff we just don't want to see.

There was a thread here just a few weeks back about an inebriated man droping his trousers (or worse) in UC soon after boarding and then being escorted off the plane. Someone with better memory or searching skills may know where it is.

I've done it a couple of times when it was just too hot in the cabin. Now I should stress that I removed the sleep suit when I was underneath the covers; I would never dream of walking down the aisle in just my briefs!

As for the comment about would you do the same on any other form of public transport? Well, a rather silly point because under that logic you wouldn't have the bar or bed either!

It's not silly at at all !

There are a lots of long distance trains that have buffet bars and there are the sleeper services as well.

But I am of the view that stripping down (even under the covers) is a no-no - what if something occured where you had to vacate your suite PDQ?. And afterall if you are too hot you can sleep on top of the duvet.

Lots of us take our own sleep wear with us because we know of the ninja heat effect. Equally lots of people don't take off their normal clothes either.

I find the sleep suits awfully hot in the sweltering heat of the aircraft overnight.

I tend to wear the bottoms and take a vest T-shirt to wear with it, or I have on occasions taken a pair of PJs with a vest top and cut-off bottoms, as they were cotton and so a lot cooler.

I would never, ever sleep in my undies.

There's a story on FT about a German man on BA First who slept in a thong :$ (and apparently he wasn't a picture when he rose to ask for a drink and waddled down to the galley with his blanket over his shoulders and little else [double :$ :$ ])!

If you are going to be too hot, take some shorts and a t shirt to change into. I can't wear the sleep suits because they are uncomfortably hot either.
