Can we use the bar on flight, when travelling economy?

Hi all, here I am back again with probably a silly question. We`re travelling in economy on both 747 & A330. On 747 diagram on Virgin site it shows a bar at the front of the plane, but you have to go through another seating area to get to it. On the A330 diagram it doesn`t show a bar at all. My question is, as we are travelling in economy are we allowed to use the bar for soft drinks, or do we have to wait until cabin staff bring drinks around? As a family we drink lots of water, or cordial. The A330 flight is night flight, so hopefully the kids will have a bit of a sleep at least. Just don`t want to upset anyone by wandering into their space on the flight. B)

Hi,

The Bar at the front is for Upper Class passengers only :). The A330 doesn't have an upper class cabin which means there's no bar.

Hope this helps, enjoy your trip :)

The bar is for Upper Class passengers only. The crew will be happy to serve with with drinks from the galley in Econ though :)

Thanks AlecK. I saw on another site a while back that one of the Virgin flights ran out of drinking water quite early on, has anyone ever experienced this? Will we need to raid Boots for bottled water to take with us? Sorry for being a pain, but don`t want to be thirsty for 9+ hours.

I've never had water run out on any of the flights we have been on, I think that must have been a very isolated case. You can get a drink from the galley or by pressing the call button at any time during the flight.

As Neil has said I have never known a VS flight to run out of drinks. The cabin staff will usually lay out a tray in the forward galley (under the stairs on the 747) with a selection of drinks so you can help yourself or press the call button or grab a passing crew member and they will get one for you.

Me neither - they always seam to have plenty and IF they do run out of bottled water then there is still the water fountain.

There is no harm in taking a bottle from Boots either (bought post security of course!)

Nor is there any harm is going to the gallery - in my mind preferable to using the call bell - as it gives an opportunity to stretch your legs.

But for a pax from Y or PE to try and use the bar is a no-no and the staff are pretty hot on indentifying interlopers.

The water fountains are only on the LHR based A340-600 A/C.

Not sure if there's any on the A330's ?| There's certainly none on any of the 747's.

Saying that though, I also have never heard of VS running out of drinking water during a flight.

Why would you expect to use the bar? Perhaps take a look at VS dot com, there's a guide to economy here?

Hi Slinky09, we never expected to use the bar, but on another reply from an earlier question, a user mentioned there was a bar. We don`t drink alcohol at all, but thought this was the only place we could get drinks other than cabin crew rounds. It is most probably a busy flight, just before the school holidays, and didn`t want to be a pain to anyone, either crew or passengers alike. Thanks CHill710 about the info with the tray. Should be stretching legs quite frequently as I had a DVT a couple of years back, so it looks like frequent visits to the galley it is. Thanks again for all your help, this site is invaluable to newbies and first time Virgin Flyers. y)

Well, in economy theres kind of a bar but not in the Upper Class sense. Theres a place where a bloke will give you drinks if you ask.

Its not the same as the place where you can sit and get drinks and chat to the barman. Thats whats marked as 'bar' on the plane, and thats for UC only.
