DVT & Flight Socks

Hello All,

Would appreciate your thoughts on wearing flight socks in UC please.

We have worn them in the past when travelling in Club etc, but was just wondering if any of you wear them when travelling in UC.

Thank You

Wear then if you want but personally I don't think they are very helpful as they can give a false sense of security as in 'my socks will protect me' (heard that one in a well known chemist shop!)

It is far more important to move your legs on a regular basis and do some ankle flexes, calf stretches etc (no matter what cabin you are in)

My wife wore them in June to Nairobi. She is pregnant and so that was a very good reason. However as Tonty says they are not 'fire and forget' and do lull people into a false sense of security. Although there is evidence that there is some benefit, I agree that regular exercise and movement and adequate hydration (water, not champagne) is of far greater benefit.

I tend to follow all the rules on DVT:

I wear flight socks - irrespective of cabin
walk about as much as possible
take pleanty of water

Thanks very much for your replies.
We do follow the rules as such....having regular walkabouts and drinking plenty v(
Seriously though, having not flown long haul in quite a while and with our nurse practitioner breathing down our necks about the socks l feel we will stay safe, wear them and not be too complacent about them.

Thanks Again

We always wear our flight socks regardless of which cabin we travel in, it's a right old rigmaroll taking off the normal socks swapping them for the long flight socks which are the devil to get on and pulled up, but we do it anyway amidst amused looks from other passengers. :o)

We also have airogyms in the flight bag. These are a bit like the flock blow up neck pillows but are long and have two chambers. You inflate it then place it on the floor under your feet, you then push very hard to move the air from one chamber to the other and back, you can very effectively exercise your whole legs with these. y)

Maybe a bit over the top perhaps :P

I used to do as you suggest, but as I am now a lot, lot older, best that the word "moderation" takes a greater significance :w

I dont think you can be too careful and although it does cramp my style somewhat I always wear flight socks. Not the most glamourous articles of clothing :w

In some ways I think it is more important to weat them in UC as you can get a bit too comfy in your seat and feel less likely to get up and down......unless it is to visit the bar ):

Mr Sunshine has had a few work colleagues recently have DVT's in Business Class where they have settled into the snooze zone without the socks and not moved v(

Hubby and I have a joke about this I am funny about this and won't put them on till I physically get on the plane which then causes lots arms and legs being tired into knots trying to get them on but then we generally fly in economy.

Ha ha yes that's us too.

Arms and legs everywhere, up the back of the seat in front, then head down between legs trying to pull them up, or balancing on one leg in the aisle with one leg up on the seat whilst someone decides to try to get by, then head first into the seats. :P

And all the while other passengers looking on in amusement. :o) But I still maintain it's definitely worth the struggle. y)
