How to tell what ticket code you are booking on VA

Guys,

I am looking at flights for GLA to MCO next June and looking at possibly upgrading but not when I book, how do you know what ticket code you are booking to ensure I have a ticket I can upgrade.

Also can I upgrade at the end of the year with miles or miles + money?

Thanks

The best way to make sure you book a fare code that will allow miles to upgrade is to use this page on the VS site and select the code you want.

If you are just using the normal booking engine, when you are on the price matrix page, click the fare breakdown button in the bottom right on the screen (just below the total price) and it will open a pop up box and in there is shows which fare code the price if for.

Do be careful though - it is pointless booking in a class that allows miles upgrades but then only to find out there are no miles seats available, which aren't the easiest to come by on the GLA-MCO route, especially during the busier periods like June.

And, you can upgrade at any time with miles OR money, not a mix. However, as Neil says, booking a more expensive fare on the chance you could upgrade later could prove a costly error. Better to do it all at once when you know there is availability.

Alternatively, book the lowest fare now and when you are able to, you can pay to upgrade that fare class to one which you can add the miles and move up a cabin or two (which sounds like miles + money but isn't in VS speak!).
