Hi
Might be a bit of a cheeky question, Does anybody know if I could upgrade a Z class Fare to An R Class Fare to Get the CDC, I am travelling with my partner but was wondering if we could just upgrade one of the z class fares to get the CDC and then both travel in it?

Yes you can do that - although I imagine the cost would be more than just booking a car service yourself.
Any pax flying UC can now call and book a slot to use the UC wing with their own car (or private car service) provided there is space available.
Just as a side, the UC R fare code has changed and is now an I fare code (R has become a econ fare now).

In theory a Z is a non changebale fare but yes in theory VS will happlly take a shed load of money from you so one of you could upgrade from a Z to an R and then both use the CDC.
However the question to ask yourself is WHY pay VS a lot of ££ for the 'upgrade' when the cost of 4 taxis (to from airports at both ends) will more than likely be a lot less than the 'upgrade'
I just did an UC dummy booking for LHR/NYC - the Z fare is £1751 but the cheapest fare with a CDC (an 'I') is £ 2813 so £1k+ for four taxis !

Ok thankyou for your replies, For some reasonI had thought the difference in fares would be about 300 pounds!!
But you are both correct if the difference is up near 1k then i'm best arranging my own taxi's.

I suspect that Tonty found a D fare, since I's don't yet seem available in the system (Tonty?).
I'd be interested in the detail because I have noticed before that R's can be but a few hundred pounds more than Zs, which, if you have long distances to travel by taxi, could in rare cases make some sense. That said, I should imagine Neil is right.

Slinky, the I fare code fares are loaded in to the system. Select lowest UC with a CDC and it should give you the I fare. I have just tried a dummy booking and got quoted an I.

No it was deffo an 'I' which did surprise me a bit until I remembered the earlier thread!
I clicked right through to the fare conditions box to check.
(The dummy boking I did was for December)

Don't forget that if you pay up to a higher fare you will still be bound by the restrictions on the original fare ie. Z fare cannot change dates etc.

Interesting price differential here - I've done a number of dummy UC bookings in the past, especially for the LHR/JFK route, and it's always been in the region of £300 between a Z and an R/I - wonder why so big in this case. Of course, that's a somewhat rhetorical question given the black art that is revenue management...

i'm guessing it is quite possible that it is down to the sale, I orginally booked this flight as PE and in my booking it was quoting 998 per person per sector to upgrade, then when the sale fares became available it changed to 1100 per person RTN to upgrade which is when i did it.
