Was looking at flights for beginning of year to Orlando (there's a surprise)

6th Feb - 15th Feb

VS

LGW - MCO Upper £2234.90 + BA EDI - LGW £85.82 = £2320.72

BA

EDI - LGW - MCO Club £1612.72 a £708 pp saving !!

The even more shocking price with BA in economy EDI-LGW-MCO £394.72 - take off the taxes and the fare is £97 !! :0 £97 to fly Edinburgh to Gatwick to Orlando and back !!

Hope someone from VS reads this post because at those prices BA is a no brainer

Have a look at the amount in the 'taxes' etc and see how much the fuel surcharge is and add to the £ 97 - that will give you the real fare.

Give VS a ring to see what their total through price is rather than searching it as two seperate flights. (their flight connections option on the website dosen't include UC)

Why? Will an Ex-EDI flight work out £700 cheaper than flying from LGW?

Book BA, save some money, even if you want to pay for seat selection you're saving.

Having recently flown BA Club World to Australia and VS UC to Tokyo I would say the VS price is worth it and then some....

Not necessarily but to make a fair comparison with BA, David should get a VS costing for through flights from/to EDI and not for two seperate legs.

Mind he should also see how the AMS trick works out cost wise too.

VS UC and BA CW are a slightly different product, in my opinion, folks might prefer one or the other, or it may differ depending on the length and nature of the trip.

For me, the price quoted to MCO in BA CW is highly attractive.....partly because I like the CW product a lot.

As Tonty says though, you should perhaps explore VS booking options, you may be able to reduce that price.

CW at £1600 is well worth a look! I may stray to the dark side for that level of saving!

I would imagine most peoples objective is to fly business whether it be BA or VS and that kind of saving Davids gotta take it!

It is very important to check the end to end price when comparing fares.
Two years ago we were flying from Dublin to Tampa via gatwick. The total cost of the two flights (return) on the same ticket was ab £500 - aer lingus to lgw and ba to Tampa. Checking the same ba flight from lgw to tpa was over £800. On the same plane!
We have seen his happen many times

I would imagine most peoples objective is to fly business....

Personally, I think objective is the wrong word v(
Maybe 'dream' is a more realistic word, especially in today's economic climate.

I'd be happy just to fly in economy ii). Being able to get from A to B is of the utmost importance but perhaps that's just me.

When I tried to book through VS from GLA to HAV the domestic portion, VS would only book in flexible and wanted £400-500 extra for the flight from GLA to LGW!

I have found that too with BA out of Cork. My flight to Tel Aviv was cheaper ex Cork than it was ex-LHR. I have found it to be true when checking other flights with BA. Part of it is that the APD out of Ireland is considerably cheaper. When looking at the taxes on a long-haul BA flight in Club World the APD ex-Cork was €3 as opposed to £120 ex-LHR.

I also think it is cheaper because BA does not use fully flexible fares on the Aer Lingus leg of the flight as happens with VS. I wonder if it is because that leg is a codeshare with BA? (Memo to self: Ask the beancounter when he comes home for the weekend. )

I can get BA from EDI cheaper than £1617.. VS seem to have nothing close.

In fact, take a look at BA Holidays options. 9 nights hotel + Club World flihts + Edi add on for £1678! Use Quidco or a discount code and and...

Re the APD as long as your onward flight out of the UK is within 24 hrs of your international arrival then UK APD won't apply as you are regarded as being in-transit.


BTW all I was saying in my earlier post was to check all the options and compare apples with apples and not apples with kumkwats.

Same happened earlier this year to me - BA (from regional airport) + same hotel + same car came out 4 - 500 pounds cheaper than VS /VH from LHR (to Anaheim). (We'd have to get down to LHR from the north so would have to come down the night before for the VS flights so we'd have to add that cost in too.)

I am looking at MAN to MCO next sept and BA are coming out arround £700 cheaper, I am really hoping VS do a sale soon or I may end up booking with the dark side
